Basilica De Santisimo Sacramento, Colonia del Sacramento
(4.1/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
One of the highlights of the World Heritage-listed city center, Basilica De Santisimo Sacramento dates back to the 17th century, when the site was occupied by a more humble building made of mud. The pair of main towers possesses colonial-era rusticity, with the whitewashed walls adding much to this effect. The history of the church is detailed in the main building, while the neatly restored interior creates an atmosphere of contemplation and spirituality, harking back to the town's colonial past. • It is the oldest church in the country. Although it has several reconstructions and renovations, it shows having their good years. It is opposite the plaza de armas.
