Puente Giratorio, Carmelo

(3.7/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Visit Puente Giratorio, a picturesque moving swing bridge and an iconic part of Carmelo's image and history. The bridge features on most local postcards, and became synonymous with the city after its construction in early 20th century. The first of its kind in Uruguay, it also represents the first bridge operated entirely by humans when it needs to move. Hang around on the picturesque waterfront and you might get the chance to watch a ship pass under the bridge, causing a whole raft of movements to take place, with part of the bridge appearing to retreat into itself to allow the boat through. • This bridge is worth a visit. Great design and always strongly negotiate. Unfortunately, she was not moved during my visit.

  • The charm and tranquility of small Carmelo does deserve a stop for photographs. Education and hospitality of the locals is to emphasize. The swing bridge is part of the "Ruta 21" roadmap of charm, history, wine tasting and unforgettable sunsets.
