  • So when the tour buses are not running you can drive your vehicle the whole way. That means stop when and where you want without a time clock. Got a National Park pass and your gold. We stopped took a...  more »
  • It was $30 to drive the 5 Miles, and it was worth it. We met wonderful couples enjoying it with us but it was not crowded.  more »
  • This is not near the other areas of Zion National Park, but it is worth the visit. The 5 mile dead end road that starts just off I-15 is not too difficult & has fantastic scenery. Don't miss this when...  more »

  • Get away from the crazy crowds in the other part of Zion and still see some spectacular scenery. There are not as many hikes here, but there are a few and they can be a lot of fun. I recommend the overlook trail at sunset/sunrise, it’s short, easy to get up and down, and beautiful colouring at sunrise/set.
  • Amazing lunch stop, good short hikes for a break from driving. Good location for people who can not hike as well - as it has an amazing five mile scenic drive. Well worth the stop!
  • We visited the Kolob Canyons section of the park one day and hiked to Kolob Arch. It's about an hour drive from Springdale. Unlike the main Zion Canyon, the Kolob section is much less crowded. On an 7-hour, 14-mile hike, we only saw three other people, so it was kind of a relief after visiting more popular areas. Although the hike is long, it's pretty easy for most of the way. The first part is rather steep downhill, so the very end if uphill. Besides that, it's a very pleasant hike. From Lee Pass, the trail descends about three miles along Timber Creek (dry when we hiked) and then turns left and follows La Verkin Creek upstream. There are a number of backcountry campsites all along the trail if you want to make an overnight trip, but all camping in the park requires a permit. In just under 7 miles, a spur trail to the left leads about a half-mile to a viewpoint of the arch. This area is part of Zion Wilderness, so no blazes, but there are signs at trail junctions. The Kolob Arch Trail ends at a viewpoint of the arch, but we found a better spot by climbing up some rocks. The arch is huge - even viewing from a distance. It's tucked away in a small canyon and I guess that protects it from erosion.
  • This is definitely the most beautiful part of Zion national park. Angels landing is equally spectacular, but not as neat and isolated.
  • Really nice views with a driving tour that gas multiple stops for you to park and take pictures. The majority of these stops also have hiking trails. There is a price for admission, but its for a whole week pass. Definitely worth at least a quick detour off the highway.
