Where to stay in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park offers something for everyone. Choose from upscale or historic hotels, a well-appointed lodge, motel rooms, rustic cabins, canvas tent cabins, and developed campgrounds. Yosemite Village in the heart of the valley is the most convenient place to stay, but other accommodations line the roads leading to the village. If you can't secure a place inside the park, try the various lodges, inns, bed and breakfasts, cabins, cottages, and motels on the roads leading in from the west. Staying any further out can cost you valuable time that you could be spending hiking, biking, and sightseeing. To escape from the crowds in the valley, reserve a campsite at Crane Flat or Hodgdon Meadow, which are far enough out to provide solitude but close enough to reach major valley attractions in less than half an hour. Campgrounds along Tioga Road see even fewer crowds. If you plan to visit in summer, you must reserve accommodations (even campsites) well in advance, as Yosemite remains extremely popular with both visitors from afar and those based in California.

  • Yikes! Very high grass, super slow greens, and lots of bugs. An hour drive from the gorgeous valley, and none of the cool views while you play. Not recommended.  more »
  • We were staying at Big Trees Lodge (formerly the Wawona). The golf course is pretty with its meadow views. We enjoyed playing it. One can either rent a golf cart or walk the course. We played 9 holes,...  more »

  • It is Yosemite. It deserves 6 out of 5 stars!
  • We've spent 7 out of the last ,9 years there. Rooms are comfortable and we like the Washburn Veranda accommodations best. Disappointed on the name change as the Wawona Hotel is considered an historical site. Don't care much for the way they new people running it. The light breakfast has always been included with the cost of the room. We went to breakfast our first morning and we're told that as of yesterday that is no longer the case. I'd prefer to order off the menu, but I'd like the choice. Coffee was out every morning we went down. Being told it just ran out, or they're bringing a new pot now, we'd still have to sit and wait 30 minutes! UNACCEPTABLE! It isn't that hard to have coffee prepared for guests.
  • The Wawona Hotel is not located where this map indicates. It's a 45 minute drive away over a winding mountain road (that's if there is no traffic and good road conditions). Otherwise, it's a nice place.
