Tenaya Lake, Yosemite National Park

4.8
#10 of 14 in Nature in Yosemite National Park
Take a walk on the shores of Tenaya Lake, or hike up the surrounding mountains. Breathe in fresh air coming down from the rocky hills, have a picnic next to the lake, or go for a swim in the crystal clear water. Note, however, that the water here can be cold, even during the warm months of June and July. Wear comfortable shoes if hiking, and don't forget to bring snacks as well as drinkable water. • the views of granite hoods and the blue waters of Tenaya lake are mesmerizing! Do stop here when you visit Yosemite National Park.. There are few picnic tables too (if you are lucky to get one!)
  • I love Tenaya Lake. It was the first day of fall when we went there and the night before it, it was snowing. The view is definitely breath taking and it made me calm and relax. The water was still and the trees mountains are covered with white snow.
  • Nice lake. Can have picnic but watch out for bears. V cold to swim
  • Absolutely loved Tenaya Lake. It's a beautiful stop in Yosemite with gorgeous views and quiet setting. The water is crystal clear, calm and welcoming.
  • The area I visited was over crowded. Regardless there are bbq pits, tables and plenty of space for everyone. The water was refreshing, and jus like any other body of water, the deeper you go the colder it gets. The mountain views are beautiful and it was a fun drive on this stretch of the scenic highway

Where to stay in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park offers something for everyone. Choose from upscale or historic hotels, a well-appointed lodge, motel rooms, rustic cabins, canvas tent cabins, and developed campgrounds. Yosemite Village in the heart of the valley is the most convenient place to stay, but other accommodations line the roads leading to the village. If you can't secure a place inside the park, try the various lodges, inns, bed and breakfasts, cabins, cottages, and motels on the roads leading in from the west. Staying any further out can cost you valuable time that you could be spending hiking, biking, and sightseeing. To escape from the crowds in the valley, reserve a campsite at Crane Flat or Hodgdon Meadow, which are far enough out to provide solitude but close enough to reach major valley attractions in less than half an hour. Campgrounds along Tioga Road see even fewer crowds. If you plan to visit in summer, you must reserve accommodations (even campsites) well in advance, as Yosemite remains extremely popular with both visitors from afar and those based in California.
