Tenaya Lake, Yosemite National Park

4.9
#9 of 14 in Nature in Yosemite National Park
Take a walk on the shores of Tenaya Lake, or hike up the surrounding mountains. Breathe in fresh air coming down from the rocky hills, have a picnic next to the lake, or go for a swim in the crystal clear water. Note, however, that the water here can be cold, even during the warm months of June and July. Wear comfortable shoes if hiking, and don't forget to bring snacks as well as drinkable water. This is one of the most beautiful spots we have ever visited in the United States. Tenaya lake is along the Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park. There is a sandy beach on the east side of the lake wi...  more »

It is located along the Tioga Pass Road, the spectacular mountain road that crosses the Yosemite Park westward road subject to closure for snow in winter, but this year all spring because heavy snowfall falls in the winter months. During the journey to Lee Vining (64 miles from Big Oak Float) meets, among a thousand other natural beauty, this beautiful Lake (is one of the first stops along the apparently short but actually very intense mountain path) where it is necessary a stop to admire the crystal waters, with the surrounding mountains that are reflected ... a natural wonder ... Tenaya Lake is a beautiful lake up near Tioga Pass. There are several spots with picnic tables and restrooms. Unfortunately this place is over-loved during the summer. We came through here at the end ...  more »

Where to stay in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park offers something for everyone. Choose from upscale or historic hotels, a well-appointed lodge, motel rooms, rustic cabins, canvas tent cabins, and developed campgrounds. Yosemite Village in the heart of the valley is the most convenient place to stay, but other accommodations line the roads leading to the village. If you can't secure a place inside the park, try the various lodges, inns, bed and breakfasts, cabins, cottages, and motels on the roads leading in from the west. Staying any further out can cost you valuable time that you could be spending hiking, biking, and sightseeing. To escape from the crowds in the valley, reserve a campsite at Crane Flat or Hodgdon Meadow, which are far enough out to provide solitude but close enough to reach major valley attractions in less than half an hour. Campgrounds along Tioga Road see even fewer crowds. If you plan to visit in summer, you must reserve accommodations (even campsites) well in advance, as Yosemite remains extremely popular with both visitors from afar and those based in California.
