  • One of the most beautiful and interesting places to see. Good to walk around and easy to negotiate. Talk a walk through and up to take in the view which is unforgettable  more »
  • Coming on the way to the Lake Tenaya or from the Tioga Pass, one can not overlook Olmsted Point! Always very well attended, but it offers a great view on the half dome. Who can make it, should be present at the time of the sunset, there is a special atmosphere!

  • Olmstead Point is a lookout on the Tioga Pass Road (California 120), roughly halfway between Yosemite Valley and Lee Vining. There is a large pull-off parking area. I do not recall seeing any bathroom...  more »

  • The lot was packed but I was still able to easily find parking. It was a very short and rewarding trail. I was very pleased.
  • Climb the area across from it is very claimable. The peak of it has a breathtaking view in all directions. A must try.
  • One of the most amazing views in one of the most amazing National Parks. Good signage explains what you are seeing and some of the natural history. Nice quick hikes on the glacier carved landscape, fun for kids and adults.
  • Amazing view! There is a small and short trail, following it the scenery is even more stunning!
  • Great view of Yosemite's "skyline"!

Where to stay in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park offers something for everyone. Choose from upscale or historic hotels, a well-appointed lodge, motel rooms, rustic cabins, canvas tent cabins, and developed campgrounds. Yosemite Village in the heart of the valley is the most convenient place to stay, but other accommodations line the roads leading to the village. If you can't secure a place inside the park, try the various lodges, inns, bed and breakfasts, cabins, cottages, and motels on the roads leading in from the west. Staying any further out can cost you valuable time that you could be spending hiking, biking, and sightseeing. To escape from the crowds in the valley, reserve a campsite at Crane Flat or Hodgdon Meadow, which are far enough out to provide solitude but close enough to reach major valley attractions in less than half an hour. Campgrounds along Tioga Road see even fewer crowds. If you plan to visit in summer, you must reserve accommodations (even campsites) well in advance, as Yosemite remains extremely popular with both visitors from afar and those based in California.
