American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, Yorktown
(3.9/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
The Revolutionary War comes to life at American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, a living-history museum located near the battlefield where American and French forces secured the new nation's independence in 1781. The center's signature display features an early draft of the Declaration of Independence, which was produced in Boston before members of Congress signed another copy of the document. Outside the center you can explore an army encampment, that's been created to provide visitors with insight into the private lives of soldiers who fought and died for the cause of independence. At another outdoor exhibit, a reconstructed 18th century farm, you'll hear the story of ordinary American farmers struggling to survive during this decisive period. • Museum is extremely nice and the Siege movie is a must see. Outside is a major letdown as its under construction and basically an eyesore (Nov 2016). You walk outside expecting to be transported to 1700's, and instead you feel like you've been taken to a 2017 construction site. I understand why, but they should have at least lowered the price in consideration.
  • Beautiful museum in a beautiful setting. Wonderful gift shop with all the Revolutionary period goodies you could ask for. Loved it!
  • This was the best museum we have EVER been to. The content, movies (especially the seige), and the living representatives for surgeons, common folk, and canon personel were 'the bomb.'
  • Galleries were closed. We only had an hour to stay. It was fun. Brought kids ages 3, 5, 7.
  • Amazing amazing amazing. The people here are some of the best I've seen yet in Virginia. There is an excellent (if pricey) cafe, history lessons relating to the Revolutionary War by an incredibly knowledgeable speaker, a replica of wartime camp, live gun and cannon fires, and so much more. Please please come visit the American Revolution Museum.
