Old Faithful, Yellowstone National Park

(4.5/5 based on 3,000+ reviews on the web)
This cone geyser is an icon of Yellowstone National Park. The team who discovered Old Faithful described it as “the perfect geyser.” Though not the tallest or largest in the park, the geyser is one of the most popular for its beauty, size, and regularity of eruptions--almost every 91 minutes, hence its name. Watch the explosion of boiling water reach a height of 32 to 56 m (106 to 185 ft) for around 1.5 to 5 minutes, giving you plenty of time to take photos. The cafeteria in the nearby lodge boasts great views if you want to watch the show over a sandwich. They also do take-out. • Wonderful set up by the Park Services to take in this amazing sight. Not a bad seat in the house! We enjoyed every second!
  • Old Faithful stood up to the hype and was definitely worth seeing. I found the rest of Yellowstone to be even greater though.
  • The geyser, when it does erupt, is really a sight to see. The water soars up around 50-75 feet maybe more. The only difficulty is getting to see it. My wife and I watched the times at the ranger stati...  more »

  • What an impressive nature wonder! I was awestruck by how large this geyser is. It erupts like clock work within minutes of predicted times. We visited Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park during heavy tourist season. The park is well maintained despite the number of visitors everyday. Parking can be a challenge during the early afternoon. We were able to get a seat just by being there a little early before one of the predicted times. There are Park Rangers there at Old Faithful answering questions from visitors. Don't forget to visit Geyser Hill and surrounding areas to see other geothermal wonders within walking distance (take water!). There is a Visitor Center that is new and very informative for all levels - children to adult. Other services offered nearby are a gas station, general store, lodging, and different levels of dining options such as cafeteria, diner, and a couple sit down restaurants. There is even auto repair available. You also must visit the historic Old Faithful Lodge - even if you just pop into the lobby.
  • This is an amazing geyser that lives up to its famous reputation. While not the largest geyser in the park, it is the one that you can most easily guarantee seeing. The predicted eruption times are posted at several locations throughout the park and there is plenty of seating nearby. Even in large crowds, you can get a great view. This surrounding geyser features are also beautiful and well worth a visit on the short trail nearby. If you're going to visit Yellowstone, this feature is a must see.
  • Truly this is a must see on any visit to Yellowstone. It really is that impressive. Accurately predictable to within 10 minutes. Get some delicious ice cream from the Old Faithful Inn and pick a nice spot. Crowds gather for each daytime eruption around the large circular viewing area. For a really neat experience go out after midnight. Old Faithful under the full moon is like magic. Will never forget that experience. Good food and amenities right here so hang around before and after to let the geyser only crowds dissipate.
  • Definitely one of the stops on everyone's bucket list. The park was wonderful, entered through the west entrance and exited through the east entrance. Wished it was daylight when I left because the east entrance was remote and probably get better, scenery wise when leaving.
  • Old Faithful is a must-see. It's a large geyser that regularly erupts every couple hours. There's almost always a large crowd but the view is great from nearly everywhere. Be sure to walk around the area and enjoy the other pools and geysers, as well as the very nice lodges and Visitors Center.
