  • Beautiful and uncrowded. A 2-mile hike or bike ride from the highway. One of the highlights of our visit to Yellowstone.  more »
  • As others have noted, this trail is an easy ramble along the beautiful Firehole River. We walked the trail in the fall and the colors of the turning leaves just added to the beauty of the riverbank an...  more »
  • Lonestar is a great way to combine an easy hike with some geyser gazing. The path to the geyser is an old roadbed and level. It follows (the Firehole) river with nice scenery along the way. A nice way...  more »

  • We made it just in time to see the main eruption, having missed the pre-eruption by mere minutes. It was a long hike for my husband who had to stop and rest many times along the trail. It was well worth the hike. We experienced Lone Star before we did Old Faithful. After Lone Star, Old Faithful was a bit disappointing.
  • Great geyser. Well worth the effort to hike back to. It's nice to get away from the crowds. Hopefully you're lucky enough that it goes off. When it does, it lasts a surprisingly long time.
  • This geyser is well worth the 6 mile round trip hike. It is not crowded here like at old faithful. The road is a relatively flat and easy hike. I would suggest using a bicycle if you have one. The geyser goes off for a half hour or so, and goes off about every 3 hours.
  • This has always been one of my favorite geysers in the park. It erupts regularly and fairly often - about every 3 hours. It begins with a few minor eruptions and then enters a fairly long major phase. When water is no longer being sent up, the geyser enters a nice load and powerful sounding steam phase. I have never been there when more than 20 or so people have been present, so it almost feels like a private showing. The 2.5 mile or so nearly flat walk in is along the beautiful Upper Firehole River. So even if you don't make it all the way in to the geyser itself, the shortened walk is worthwhile. If the small parking lot is filled, it is easy to snag a spot in the Kepler Cascade lot nearby.
  • If you time it right this is one of the best geysers to see in Yellowstone.
