  • We came into Yellowstone through this valley and were amazed by its beauty. The weather was also nice so we had a great view of the valley.  more »
  • We took a boxed lunch or made up lunch with us everyday and this was a perfect place to enjoy that lunch. There were many turnouts along the way and there were many bison in the field. Take a turnout ...  more »
  • For a European tourist who like to travel with any comfort, this is the closest you come to the unspoiled nature (on the road after of course which you drive). The Valley with grassy plains over which herds of bison, the meandering River, the rolling hills and the endless forests and the snow capped mountains in the distance. It is an experience you will not easily forget.

  • This is what Yellowstone is all about! Great to view bison + wolves + pronghorns and other wildlife. Highly recommend you park and walk in for about an hour - specially near the river. Fantastic !!
  • Amazing. Beautiful. Be patient. Take binoculars for the wolves. . Go early in the morning. Let the bison run around your car.
  • Best place in Wyoming to watch wildlife. Be there before sunrise and keep good binoculars to see animal activities
  • Once upon a time not so long ago the entire continental United States resembled the Lamar Valley. All that is gone forever. Only a few thousand acres remain. For the sake of humanity and for our grand children and their grand children, we must do everything in our power to protect what little we have left. Right now as I write the entire concept of public lands is under assault. If we don't fight back, future generations will look upon our generation as thieves and cowards; because, once it is gone, it is gone forever. Once the Koch Brothers get ahold of it, it is theirs not ours.
  • Simply spectacular! Big meadows. You can stop and grab your binoculars to watch the wildlife. We saw a coyote on the road.

Where to stay in Yellowstone National Park

As one of the U.S.'s most popular national parks, Yellowstone provides plenty of options for sleeping within its boundaries. Choose from lodges, inns, cabins, hotels, motels, and campgrounds throughout the park. Most of the structured accommodations lie in the park's most-visited areas, such as Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Falls, Old Faithful Geyser, and Yellowstone Lake. Staying on the northern side of the lake puts you right in the heart of the park, making it relatively convenient to visit other areas. Resorts, lodges, and guest ranches line the road just outside the park's east entrance, and a cluster of motels and hotels fills the town of West Yellowstone near the west entrance. You can also opt for lodges and inns to the north in Gardiner, Montana, or find nearly every type of accommodation to the south in Jackson, Wyoming. Staying outside the park is fine if you plan to drive through in a day and catch the highlights, but you'll want to spend at least one night inside the park if you plan to explore it more thoroughly.
