Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park

4.9
Canyon · Nature / Park
The massive Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is about 39 km (24 miles) long, between 240 and 370 m (800 and 1,200 ft) deep, and from 0.40 to 1.21 km (0.25 to 0.75 mi) wide. If you go to Artist Point, which provides an excellent view of the winding river and rock walls and gives a better sense of the canyon's size, you'll be able to view the area from about 50 m (160 ft) away. This may take you about half an hour, but the vistas you take in from the edge of observation point will remain with your for a lifetime. • Definitely worth the visit, we hiked the trails to see the lower and upper falls. Some of the hikes were short but very steep.  more »
  • Worth the trip to this area of Yellowstone. Be sure to do a short hike to the various vantage points. Not nearly as grand as the "Grand Canyon", but simply beautiful.  more »

  • Maybe my favorite place in Yellowstone. Just breathtaking!
  • Simply stunning. Visit all of the overlooks at least once. And visit at least one at sunrise on a clear day when the colors are most brilliant.
  • 💛💛💛 beautiful and serene.
  • Beautiful!
  • In my opinion, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is the most beautiful place in the park. It expresses the park's complex geologic history in dramatic colors and shapes. Puffs of steam mark hydrothermal features in the canyon's walls. The Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River add to the grandeur of the unique natural treasure. We viewed it from the North and South Rim and from lookout, inspiration and artists points. Unfortunately the brink was closed during our visit but I would have loved to get a workout and get that close to the falls. We went about 8:30 am to beat the crowds and spent about 2 hours there. Make sure you take a lot of pictures and videos but it does not do it justice when you come home and look at them. Enjoy.
