  • This geyser performed for us for 40 minutes longer than the guide said! It was spectacular and not small. I'd estimate it at 50 to 90 ft high. It goes off every 12 hours so you may be lucky. Check the...  more »
  • This was our first visit to Yellowstone (hopefully, not our last) and the geysers are fascinating and amazing to watch. The basin walk encompasses a lot of geysers (and hot springs) and makes for an e...  more »
  • Easy walk to get to this one. It is close to Old Faithful Inn and along the geyser pathway. It is really huge!  more »

  • We were watching old faithful and this geyser started erupting and it was beautiful. We started walking towards it and it was going on strong for a while after we reached there. You can go much closer to it than old faithful.
  • A very tall geyser that goes off about once ever 13 hours. Check Yellowstone's Geyser Times website to see which Geysers are erupting when
  • If you made it this far to see Old Faithful, walk a little down the trail to see Castle Geyser.
  • Fast facts: Elevation: 7,333 feet Eruption height: 90 feet (27 m) Frequency: 10 to 12 hours Duration: 20 minutes Castle Geyser is a cone geyser in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. It is noted for the particularly large geyserite sinter deposits, which form its cone. These deposits have been likened in appearance to a castle. When the geyser was given this name in 1870, the top edges of the structure resembled the typical profile associated with the modern concept of a castle, having the appearance of a large keep, multiple turrets, and especially because of the crenelation along the top edges of what resembled its towers. As the drawing below shows the cone had distinctive appearance at the time. Over time the cone's shape changes because of the layers of mineral deposited in successive eruptions.
