(4.8/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Learn about a famous illustrator and puppeteer at Edward Gorey House, a house museum dedicated to the life and work of this eccentric American artist. Gorey lived in the 200-year-old house for the last 14 years of his life; today, it features a collection of his sketches, etchings, and personal effects, plus a host of bizarre artifacts the author collected in the last years of his life. In keeping with Gorey's ardent support of animal welfare, the museum also houses a number of cats and frequently features animal-themed exhibits. Make a four-legged friend and enjoy the shade of the large, rare southern magnolia in the yard of this charming museum. • If you are a fan of Edward Gorey, or you enjoy the macabre, or you like illustrations, you really shouldn't miss this spot. I really enjoyed my visit! Edward Gorey was such a fascinating character, no wonder people love him and his work so much!
  • I loved my visit to the Edward Gorey house. It's a pleasant and creative place to spend an hour or two browsing. The house is run as a museum and the exhibits rotate, so there is always something new to see here. The small gift shop at the front is great for Edward Gorey lovers and even, more broadly, for cat lovers and poetry lovers!
  • The Edward Gorey House was a wonderful visit. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Lots to see and learn about this amazing local artist who was also a huge animal advocate. Would recommend to anyone.
  • Such a treat! Any fan of Edward Gorey will be delighted to share in his personal home, works, collections. Intimate and fascinating.
  • Fan's of Gorey's work will love it here - the place is literally packed with his drawings and personal artifacts. The guided tour comes highly recommended, as does The Gashlycrumb Tinies scavenger hunt.
