Kernstown Battlefield and Pritchard House, Winchester

(3.9/5 based on 20+ reviews on the web)
The Pritchard Farm was the scene of several combats during the Civil War. The most famous was Stonewall Jackson's only defeat at the hands of Col. Nathan Kimball on March 23, 1862. The farm also saw combat during the Second Battle of Winchester on June 13, 1863. C. S. Gen. Jubal Early achieved one of the most lopsided victories of the war over U. S. Gen. George Crook on July 24, 1864. A small engagement occurred several weeks later, as Early's troops pushed the new U. S. commander, Phil Sheridan, back toward Winchester on August 17.

  • Staff let us come on Saturday to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday! They thought of everything. Mike even let us girls take pictures in the house. Awesome
  • This is a nice park with historical markers and a nice gift shop. There is also a display of cannons.
  • Went here on the 4th of July on a lark. We had a picnic lunch and were looking for someplace to eat it. We drove up to the main house and were greeted warmly by the folks running the park. After a very pleasant lunch my family and I explored the battle field a bit and the museum on site a lot. I have to say the quality of the museum really surprised me! Very well laid out with lots of great local information about the Civil War in that area. They were fantastic with my 4 year old son who had a good time. The folks that run the park obviously love the history of it and take great pride in keeping it up for future generations.
  • We visited to see Follow the Star Nativity scene
