Our Lighthouse was the 1st Lighthouse in the Oregon Territory - Commissioned in the Fall of 1857. It was undermined by terrible floodwaters in 1861, and the first lens was removed before it fell into the sea in January, 1864.

This page celebrates our 2nd lighthouse, built on a higher bluff 100' above sea level and commissioned Dec. 31, 1894, and the efforts by the Friends of Umpqua River Light to prevent our historic First Order Fresnel Lens from being decommissioned.

  • Really enjoyed the tour. Terry was awesome sharing the history of the lighthouse and the history of the coastguard. I highly recommend this tour as you will learn mor than just about a light house
  • That place was awesome and great guide he was so knowledgeable answered all of our questions, definitely the place to visit
  • This was awesome. We have been coming off and on for the last 20 years. We gave never done the tour. It was interesting to here about the history
  • Wonderful place to visit. Enjoyed the guided lighthouse tour and tour of the former coast guard house, as well as the spectacular view. The staff at the gift shop were welcoming and very helpful. The art gallery had some beautiful items. Well worth the trip!
  • What a wonderful stop this was. We took the tour of the lighthouse, which I would recommend, hands down, as one of the best little tours in a history of lighthouses. We found our guide tours knowledgeable and well-able to share the story of this lighthouse in the area. Thank you for the memories! Also, I almost forgot, the gift shop in the museum are second to none, and that's not an exaggeration.
