State Park
This 933-acre park is divided by grey stone walls built of local stone in the late 1800's. At that time the property was a dairy farm owned by the du Pont family. This unique area became a state park in 1965, one of the first parks in the nation to be purchased with Land and Water Conservation Funds. The park maintains 14 miles of trails for fitness, wildlife observation, and photography.

  • Wonderful park. Huge 900+ acres. Nice science center. Great big hill and massive woods with many trails. Leads to the edge of the Brandywine river with views of the mill. Great old stone walls go all throughout the park.
  • This is a Delaware treasure. It is a beautiful park with picnicking, a nature center, hawk watch, and miles of trails of varying levels of difficulty. Convenient and easily accessed.
  • Great park for running and biking along the creek. The atmosphere is serene.
  • Love this park. I don't live in the area anymore but I had to write a review. Lots of great mountain bike trails. Canoeing or just floating the Brandywine in a tube is always a good time. I'm not sure if they're still there but there were a couple awesome rope swings back in the day.
  • Nice park, with a sledding and hawk watch hill on the right as you go in the main entrance to the office and small nature exhibits. Some picnic locations around there, and across the Brandywine Creek at Thompson's Bridge. Much of the park can be enjoyed with moderate hiking.
