Bellevue State Park, Wilmington

State Park Nature / Park
Bellevue Hall mansion commands a grand view of this historic estate, and its present form reflects alterations made by William du Pont, Jr. Mr. du Pont surrounded his home with the finest facilities: tennis courts, equestrian stables, gardens, and a picturesque pond, amid woodlands and fields overlooking the Delaware River. The park was acquired by the State of Delaware in 1976.

The Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation has retained the historic charm of Bellevue while providing many opportunities for recreation. Walking and jogging are popular activities at any time of the year. A 1-1/8 mile fitness track circles a catch-and-release fishing pond stocked with bass, catfish, and sunfish, while the nearby exercise trail offers a refreshing workout. Hiking trails allow you to explore other parts of the estate. If you prefer cycling, both paved and unpaved paths lead you on a leisurely tour.

  • Been going here since I was a kid. Always been a favorite park of mine. Good for walking, running, watching the birds and turtles around the pond, and lots of summer concerts. When I was a kid, I did some horseback riding there, too.
  • Plenty of hiking, histoic buildings and the stables offer things to do while spending time among the greenery. Beautiful gardens, an amphitheatre that's host to public summertime concerts, and multiple tennis courts. There's also a public garden in which one can lease space and grow their own fruit and vegetables.
  • This place has a small entrance fee. It has great scenary. You can have a small wedding or party here. As well as take great pictures.
  • Bellevue State Park is a former estate of Mr. William du Pont, Jr.Given to the state in 1976 It contains lovely horse-stables, a covered figure eight horse racing track (that will hold about 3000 guests), a Mansion, numerous houses, and a church many of which can be rented for special occasions such as Weddings and corporate events. Also contained on the grounds are footpaths, a community garden, tennis courts and a stocked fishing pond, along with nearly constant community programming like summer concerts, and movie nights. All available for a reasonable parking fee (4 dollars in state vehicles, 8 out of state) and accessible via public transportation along Philadelphia pike. now occasionally hosts large events like the Dogfishhead Analog-a-go-go.
  • We enjoy this state park. It has a long gravel walking loop, several paved trails plus fishing and playgrounds.
