Devil's Den, Williston

3.2
#102 of 185 in Nature in Florida
Visit one of North America's most prehistoric places, Devil's Den -- an underground spring inside a karst cavern. Located in Williston, Florida this cavern has been home to the remains of many extinct animals aging back almost 2 million years as well as the bones of early man, dating back to 75,000 B.C.

The pleasant year-around temperature of 72 degrees in the Den allows for comfortable diving, winter or summer.

You'll find open water and cavern diving at its best & will be fascinated by the rock formations with stalactites and 33 million year old fossil beds, truly a natural wonder.
Put Devil's Den into our Williston road trip tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Devil's den is a kind of small cave with light, very nice to look at, especially when the Sun's rays into the water. Can you shoot really great pictures. Although we are divers, we opted for the snorkeling. It has 2 hours of time and can snorkel there then so much you want to. But really many people in a small space are traveling under a quite a few divers who explore the cave and the water is very cold (snorkel T-shirt take), we had 40 minutes then no desire more. I imagine Devil's the fantastic before when one is alone, but it was nice then, but enttäuchend. The drive there was beautiful: along to many horse farms, fields and forests. I think everyone should itself decide what Devil's the keeping, perhaps we were also somewhat critical.

We went to Orlando to Devil's Den ´ in order to dive. Access to the site was easy, with good signage, as well as the way to be quite beautiful. We spent the afternoon in the Park. On site dive operator has, with all equipment rentals. The staff is very kind and attentive, offering diving courses, accredited not baptism, snorkels, etc. The diving is beautiful, crystal clear water, but cold, the 5 mm suit was shortly after 45 min under d ´ water. Parking is free and spacious, and the day the Park was quiet, with few visitors. The structure is very good, with tables and spaces to organize equipment, easy and close access to the diving point, plus hot showers for bathrooms. The Park is very large, being very good for running, walking, make pic-nic, including children. The visual within the Devils Den, watching the Sun penetrate the rings is very beautiful, worth seeing under water. The city of Williston, where the Park is pretty small, but charming, after the tour we had dinner at Pizza Hut and continued towards the North.
