  • This is simply a walking/bike trail. We go often because of the shade and it is close. You can get to the Potomac from the trail but there are not many places to easily access the river.  more »

  • The C&O Canal makes an awesome day trip and family adventure into history. The rebuilt canal boat has two floors from which you can take a guided tour into the past. A team of mules powers the barge along the tow path, under the guidance of experienced Park Rangers and knowledgeable volunteers. They have historic toys and games for the kids to try as you listen to how life once was on the canals.
  • Went on the billy goat trail A. Which was pretty challenging so don't try it if you aren't in pretty good shape and up for some rock scrambling/bouldering. The historic pieces like the canal and museum looked cool but we didn't really spend any time checking it out. Be sure to have a wallet with you as parking on the main entrance will cost you $10.
  • Great cycling trail, well maintained with plenty of amenities along the route. The C&O has campsites every 5 to 10 miles, each site has water, sanitation facilities, picnic table and fire ring. And can acomidate a large amount of visitors at a time. The trail offers easy on and easy off access for a variety of skill levels. There are also plenty of rest stops and access to shops along the trail to restock your supplies. Would highly recommend for anyone who would like to explore history and the countryside.
  • I actually was in the Virginia side. Just north of Algonkian park. Did not even know this place was here. I walked on miles of beautiful trails along a stream. My g-friend and I had a wonderful time. 5 hours on trails, wading in the streams. Very nice easy hike. Groomed trails, we walked barefoot much of the way. Great time in nature.
  • We enjoy this park. Our last visit had lots to do. The kids did Jr ranger program. We were pulled down the canal in canal boat by mules. Singers performed canal songs. We hiked the trail. The ranger stations is I great shape. While we had our day so fill we didn't take advantage of the bicycles that were being leant to people to ride for free. We finished the day with picnic.
