  • Great stories told by the rangers. Very historical, romantic and well documented. Lots to see and a bit of a hike but not in elevation so all doable.

  • Good for low key day trip with kids or just spending some peaceful time outside. Nice spots along river to explore little things. Fossil Beach is small but beautiful. Quiet, easy wooded trails. Open fields to play tag or ballgame. Visitor center has interesting but somewhat dated natural displays for kids. Playgrounds are adequate but small. Not in my top tier of VA parks but worth a visit.
  • Nice park with places to walk, fish and play. There is a parking fee but they accept cash and card! Check it out!
  • Very pretty, nice hiking spaces along the water and in and out of the woods. Having the river there and no swimming is frustrating, even if swimming is forbidden for safety reasons. A few interesting displays in the visitor center. Beachfront walk is nice but not as well-marked as I'd expect.
  • So quiet and pristine! A number of species of frogs chorused us on Woodstock Pond and osprey, herons and crows flew over the lush forest along the rivers edge.
  • Went canoeing for the first time and absolutely loved it. There's also a secret dock if your lucky enough to find it. You CAN NOT take pets ON the canoes or kayaks but they ARE allowed on the grounds AND in the store.
