My son and I went for the market event and historical sites. We had a great time even though it was very hot. I would have given 5 stars if the prices were reasonable and if there had been more benches or places to sit in the shade. The prices are extremely high to enter the specialty shops $40 for each adult. Everything else was great. The folks dressed as period folk were lovely and happily took pictures with us. We had a great time.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The best place to go when in Merchant Square, is the Restaurant known as Seasons. It's a cozy, quiet little restaurant, built in to one of the shops. The interior design is amazing, as the inside looks like a colonial settlement (one section of the restaurant is designed like a governor's mansion, with a chandelier and fine paintings, and other sections are like shops and houses). And the floors are designed like cobblestone streets, with each section separated by wrought-iron fences/gates. Merchant Square also has the Peanut Shop, the Wythe Candy Gourmet shop, a fine pewter shop, and many other unique places to dine, shop and visit. The ONLY drawback to all of this, is the costs. The stores can be very pricey (some are ridiculously expensive for even the smallest of items). Aside from that, I HIGHLY recommend visiting Merchant Square! It has something for everyone, and the food is delicious. Plus, the scenery is beautiful, especially if you visit during autumn (around late October). They also have special events for every season of the year. It's a wonderful place all-around!

Williamsburg is amazing! Merchants square is a nice place if you want to do some shopping or have artisan food items. It does not cost anything to actually enter the square but it does lead to the Historical village where you will need to get a ticket to go into any of the houses or shops.

We got the day ticket and went into most of the buildings. The characters were all interesting and very good. I found the brick making very interesting. Plan to spend a full day there to see everything

Loved seeing this place busy! Wish we could visit more often. Definitely check out the Saturday farmer's market & Merchant Square shops for something unique.

Where to stay in Williamsburg

Williamsburg offers lodgings for every taste, including four-star resorts, quaint inns, and budget-friendly hotels. Accommodations in the city's historical district provide easy access to all of the area's major attractions, but they also charge much higher prices than equally comfortable guesthouses in some of the outlying neighborhoods. For a genuine Virginian experience, consider pitching a tent or renting a cottage in one of the area's popular campgrounds, which offer shuttle services to the city's major attractions and provide free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and fenced-in areas for pets.
