  • If you're fascinated with tunnels then you'll love the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel. The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel provides rail and road access to Whittier. The Alaska Railroad train shares the same tunnel with vehicles, but don't worry this is very safe. There is a tunnel schedule that revolves around 45 minutes. When a train arrives it has priority, but otherwise traffic flows very well in each direction. There is plenty of light inside the tunnel to take video or pictures. The smell of rock and water is unique, so drive with the windows down.
  • I went through this amazing example of engineering and organization on the Alaska Railroad following a cruise that terminated in Whittier. Everyone takes their turn: trains for a certain time, highway traffic for a certain time. Unforgettable!
  • Fun one way tunnel takes 5 min each way. 11$
  • Amazing tunnel and history. Google it!
  • This is the most organized tour! A nice, clean, welcoming station had a huge clock which counts down to your turn to drive through the tunnel. Driving through, your automobile straddles the actual train track! While you are waiting for your turn to drive through, the train takes its turn. Very organized. And the small town waiting on the other end!? TOTALLY worth the trip! The history of the town and tunnel is fascinating!
