  • As in many places in Alaska, the road network is quite limited. By going a Whittier coming from Anchorage, it must borrow a tunnel has a path that is used for the traffic of cars, trucks and trains in both directions, so it is each turn. The system is well done. In fact there is a passage in a sense every half hour. The tunnel is what is quickly traversed by two kilometers. On each side of the tunnel there is a parking lot of the style of those of piers for boats. All vehicles to station is in the order of arrival until the half hour of passage. If you're lucky you can also see the train pass. Fortunately they are not as long as in other States. The passage in this narrow tunnel has one lane is quite surprising because we need roll on the rails as trains. Anyway the rails are flattened and it is very easy to roll over. • We waited about 1/2 hour. It is long, dark but it is nothing scary. No passing traffic, one way traffic. Don't miss the last run or you're in whittier for the night.
  • This is the most organized tour! A nice, clean, welcoming station had a huge clock which counts down to your turn to drive through the tunnel. Driving through, your automobile straddles the actual train track! While you are waiting for your turn to drive through, the train takes its turn. Very organized. And the small town waiting on the other end!? TOTALLY worth the trip! The history of the town and tunnel is fascinating!
  • Round-trip tolls 12 fire direction every 30 minutes into watching the time. I think that was the last time at 11:00. When you pass through the small town of Whittier tunnel. It's a hidden gem in the same city. Shops in the town can count as ten fingers enough to be small. Optical was selling fried really can't seem to forget. Next door to eat ice cream for dessert ...
