The handful of chairlifts at Whitefish Mountain Resort in Flathead National Forest take visitors to the slopes and provide great views. The mountain has three faces, each with its own terrain, from smooth and easy to tree-covered and challenging. Hell Roaring Basin hosts snowboarders and daredevils on its soft snow. Hellfire is the longest trail in the park at 5.3 km (3.3 mi). Visitors can try themed ski tours, such as night skiing or moonlight skiing and dining. The list of activities in summer is also long, and includes a Summer Nature Center, hiking, and mountain biking. • Upon check in Jackalyn at the front desk was great. She gave us a good rate and showed us a couple of different rooms they had available. The rooms were average. There was a nice balcony looking out o...  read more »
  • We ate at the restaurant at the resort and it was good. We couldn't get a seat in the fine dining area but ate in the lounge and it was comfortable. The food was good, but not the best I have ever had...  read more »
  • We went to the resort specifically for the alpine slide. Once we got there, we were very disappointed with the length of the course and seeming lack of challenge. Also, the line was particularly long ...  read more »
  • If your looking for adventure this summer or fall I would highly recommend the zip lining at Whitefish Mountain. I'm scared of heights but still went and it was amazing. It cost $70 and you get to go down 7 zip lines. It takes several hours to complete and does require a bit of hiking so wear comfortable shows. Two guides are with you to make sure your safe. We had Jake and Brent and they were awesome guys. Bring your sunglasses and if you have access to a GoPro camera I would highly recommend filming your ride. Awesome place.
  • Big Mountain is the best. I appreciate the many improvements they've made over the many decades I've been coming here, but I don't appreciate the concomitant increase in price and pretension. "Big Mountain" suits me much better than "Whitefish Mountain Resort". Also, I hate that they charge for a lift ticket down after you've hiked up. $8! You're killing me, Smalls. Anyway, despite its flaws, I love Big Mountain.
  • Hands down the best ski resort in Flathead Valley and probably all of western Montana. Chair 1 serves up some great steeps and plenty of intermediate terrain. The original resort name of "Big Mountain" is much more appropriate - this is a big mountain! Great views of Glacier National Park, tons of lodges, tons of chairs with several high speed chairs, and tons of wonderful events like racing, pond skims, freestyle competitions, and much more. Montana knows how to spend their free time.
  • Whitefish Mountain Resort (aka Big Mountain) is the best for tree and fog skiing! We hold our snow like no where else. We hold our snow because sunny days are rare until late winter when conditions tend to get sticky. But if you are looking for powder, trees, and low visibility high fun skiing December to March this is the place to be. Compared to other Montana ski areas we do not have the terrain and size of Big Sky. We do not get as much snow as Lost Trail and for families, especially with little kids, Blacktail ski mountain on the other side of the valley is a better choice. But if you are looking for consistently good skiing and are ready to explore the trees then this is the place to be.
  • Great amount of terrain, lift lines aren't bad, beautiful views on clear days, and snow ghosts! All within a short 20 minute drive from Whitefish! What more could you ask for?
