  • Visited Sawgrass Recreation Area prior to boarding a cruise ship. You will need a car to visit as this is west of Ft Lauderdale by about 20 - 30 miles. Took an airboat ride, didn't see any alligators ...  more »

  • We went during a hot time of year and mating season for gators, so we didn't see much action. We still had a great time on the boat and animal sanctuary. One of the best things that happened was the big cats specialist was a pitbull owner (we have a 10 month old rescue who finds joy in destroying things). He gave us recommendations of what they give the big cats. He said try coconuts (just drain them first) and mini seedless watermelons. Gotta say, this is the best, most revolutionary advice of our life. The coconuts are 2/$5 and last approx a week for two. Thanks so much! We take the watermelons to the dog parks. So fun to watch, but too messy to take home.
  • Despite us not seeing a gator, the airboat ride was fun. Our captain took us on a longer ride than the usual half hour ride. Afterwards we were able to pet a fox and hold a baby alligator, which was awesome. The price was very reasonable as we each paid 30 bucks for 4 attractions. The customer service was great also.
  • When it comes to tour boats I have been on most in south Florida, And the boat ride side is not worth it. The driver was great and informative, (Tim) however they show you a gator, talk a bit, and that's it. Most places on 8th street have many stops, and you see more gators. (Tends to be more dry in that area) the rest is nice, and some interesting animals/reptiles to see which most places don't have so you would have to go to a separate place and pay separate fees, but one major complaint about that is the size of the cages, they are beyond small The Florida panther is living in what is probably a 25x15 and he's full grown. But sadly probably a standard cage even though they have plenty of room to make bigger.
  • We bought tickets on Groupon, great deal. Our captain shared a lot of educational information with a dry sense of humor. We saw two gators and an osprey, among other beautiful sights. The whole experience was outrageously beautiful. They also have a small animal exhibit area that comes with your ticket. It's well-worth doing, we had a really good time.
  • I got a Groupon deal and had a lot of fun! If you haven't done this yet then do it. Afterward we got to hold a baby alligator and see lots of large ones up close at the rescue zoo. There was also a peacock.
