beautiful in the fall. went with a group of friends for an impromptu hike. the colors of the leaves were beautiful. the trails were easy to navigate.
Took the grand kids here for a walk, picnic and watching the dogs romp in the dog park. No cars are allowed from the dog park area to the overlook, so its a good safe place for kids---but do watch out... read more »
The South Mountain Reservation can be a nearby respite from the day-to-day grind known as "life in Northern New Jersey." From here, one can hike in the former woodlot that once served the Oranges unti... read more »
One of the best hiking areas in this part of NJ. Trails are decently maintained. There are lots of gravel pathways where people come for walks. Elevation is not too much, mostly easy hikes. There's a little waterfall if you start from the trail heads near cherry lane and take the yellow trail (I'm not sure if it's the yellow trail, I'll have to check next time I go). If you would rather just walk around a lake, then go to South mountain recreation complex. There's paddle boat rentals to boat on the orange reservoir. The walkway around the lake is around 2 miles long, very flat, and always full of people walking around it. It is lined with trees and makes for a great walk any time of day.
We come here almost exclusively for the boat playground. Our kids are constantly asking to go! The equipment is beautiful and so unique. The ground under the play equipment is man made and spongy so that when little ones inevitably fall, it's not as traumatic for everyone involved! The only drawback is that it is ALWAYS packed. ALWAYS. Bathrooms are clean and nice. Parking is never a problem.
Large park and lots of trails BUT they had no maps at the trailhead!!! Also most trails aren't clearly marked...I was following the yellow trail, which turned out to be the Lenape Trail but didn't see a sign until I was about 40 min in you my hike. Unacceptable for such a large trail system.

This is a local gem. Sunrise and sunset through the seasons. Easy access. NYC skyline. Enjoy the most during fall and spring.
Who would have thought that am estate almost as stunning as Downton would be located only a few miles from my house? Greenwood Gardens is beautiful space and very serene with gorgeous gardens, a serene pond, and much more. Very friendly hosts as well. Definitely worth a visit.
