  • Our first trip to the dog beach. The place is beautiful but the flies were out in droves. The dog had a wonderful time frolicking through the waves. The walk to the beach is fairy short and easy to wa...  more »
  • The park is well cared for. Both the people beach and dog beach areas are clean. Nice hike over the dunes and through the woods too.
  • We took our dog to the dog beach and had the best time! Our dog loved the water, and we loved how long the beach was. It was a 2.5 hour drive and cost us $7 to get it but it was totally worth it! The ...  more »

  • Kirk park, wow what a day! and what a great surprise this park was. we found it completely by accident while traveling the lake Michigan shoreline. the beach was beautiful and view was fantastic. they had plenty of handicap accessible paths and picnic areas. bathrooms and water on site. there were also some very nice manicured trails through the woods wich we enjoyed thoroughly. very well kept place and a new definite stop when we are in the area. look for a fun and full day here. both romantic and family oriented.
  • We just went today, and it was great! The dog beach is a 1/4 mile hike from the parking lot, then down 44 stairs. We navigated with a dog, infant, and toddler. Got there early (9:30) and there were only 2 other dogs there, but by 11:30 it was starting to fill up. Dogs and kids all played well together. There are poop bags at the bottom of the stairs, and plenty of friendly dog people to chat with. We'll be back for sure :)
  • Nice hike along the shoreline of Lake michigan. There are some great overlooks that are very picturesque. Trails are decently maintained. Bathrooms changing area are adequate but could be cleaner. Has a nice beach area for humans however my favorite attraction is the dog beach where you can take your dog's to socialize with other dog lovers and their dogs.
  • Very nice park. Access to the dunes. Great place for families.
  • The dog beach is often overcrowded because of the very limited space. Beach-goers seem to prefer their dogs only and aren't open minded when it comes to other dogs playing with each other, splashing, kicking sand everywhere - playful behavior that should be expected with a bunch of animals running around. I've been here many times and on one occasion, a park ranger decided to "patrol" the area - she scolded my dog (a pleasant yellow lab puppy) for running around and being vocal. When I looked (dumbfounded) at her and asked what I was supposed to do, she said "just watch him." I found her response and lack of tact offensive and unwarranted. Patrollers should be educated in dog behavior if they are going to patrol this area.
