Our first trip to the dog beach. The place is beautiful but the flies were out in droves. The dog had a wonderful time frolicking through the waves. The walk to the beach is fairy short and easy to wa... read more »
The park is well cared for. Both the people beach and dog beach areas are clean. Nice hike over the dunes and through the woods too.
We took our dog to the dog beach and had the best time! Our dog loved the water, and we loved how long the beach was. It was a 2.5 hour drive and cost us $7 to get it but it was totally worth it! The ... read more »
Nice hike along the shoreline of Lake michigan. There are some great overlooks that are very picturesque. Trails are decently maintained. Bathrooms changing area are adequate but could be cleaner. Has a nice beach area for humans however my favorite attraction is the dog beach where you can take your dog's to socialize with other dog lovers and their dogs.
The dog beach is often overcrowded because of the very limited space. Beach-goers seem to prefer their dogs only and aren't open minded when it comes to other dogs playing with each other, splashing, kicking sand everywhere - playful behavior that should be expected with a bunch of animals running around. I've been here many times and on one occasion, a park ranger decided to "patrol" the area - she scolded my dog (a pleasant yellow lab puppy) for running around and being vocal. When I looked (dumbfounded) at her and asked what I was supposed to do, she said "just watch him." I found her response and lack of tact offensive and unwarranted. Patrollers should be educated in dog behavior if they are going to patrol this area.
Love this place.havent been in a few years looking forward to our return trip today.came upon it completely by accident.its a beautufil oasis away from the crowds of the larger beaches with all the same beauty
Beautiful view, a beach on the side of a dune!? Such a nice place. Life jackets are provided for kids free, too.
Great off leash dog area at the beach, short half mile walk to beach from parking, and many small/ medium sized rocks at the beach that the kids love to build with in the sand. We would go back for sure!
