  • I was born and raised in this tiny town, West Mineral, Kansas. I lived there when the town still had a grocery store "Boccias", post office, churches, and an aging population with nice little homes. I...  more »

  • This place is a really cool piece of Kansas history. They've got a lot of different mining equipment, and of course the centerpiece is the mighty Big Brutus. It's a little run down and the weathering is becoming evident, but with some donations this place could easily look almost brand new. If you're in this area for whatevet reason it's worth the stop!
  • Big Brutus is Amazing! My 5 year old son loves Big Brutus. We have visited about 10 times and never get tired of it. The last time we were there I bought a Big Brutus T-shirt for my son. He wants to wear it all the time LOL. My husband and I also enjoy it immensely. I am so glad they preserved it. It's a sight to see.
  • Sept. 2014 I left Route 66 to visit the Big Brutus Museum and did not regret it. I never have seen a huge excavator like this one. The self guided tour was interesting. I have spent a few hours on this location to learn about mining in this area.
  • Cool $8.00 adults $5. 00 for kids
  • Big Brutus is an interesting monument to the local history. It's really fun to crawl around and inside Big Brutus. I was a bit disappointed to learn that you cant climb up to the top of the shovel anymore, but you will still be blown away by the scale of the machine from the ground. It really is worth the visit to see such a huge piece of machinery.
