  • This place is great! The owners are very nice and the prices for kayak rental are unbeatable. Definitely a must-do in the NEK.
  • We moved to Newport, VT in March, 2011 and friends recommended Clyde River Recreation for a fun day kayaking. We only lived in Newport for 6 months but ended up kayaking almost every weekend. We moved to Colchester, VT in Sept, 2011 and have tried a few outfitters around our area, but continue to drive the 1.5 hour to return to CRR. We haven't found anyone as great as Chris, Pat, John, and Larry! The day trip is beautiful, the owners and staff are FABULOUS and it is definitely worth the drive for us!
  • This place is awesome. The owners are laid back and the experience was enjoyable. My granddaughters and niece rented three kayaks (one double) and spent a leisurely couple of hours on the water. As stated elsewhere, the river is an easy run with some shallow areas and a few rocks that are fairly easy to maneuver around and through. We tend to visit the area annually, and hope to return to Clyde River Recreation this year for another go-round. Highly recommend.
  • Highly recommended. Staff is friendly and incredibly helpful, service is excellent, prices are reasonable and the river runs almost entirely through wilderness. My wife and I rented a canoe for the day and wanted more than their usual 3-4 hour river trip. The owner immediately recommended a drop-off point further upriver, but was completely upfront about the presence of a few trees across the river on the uppermost section (he keeps the more popular lower section obstacle-free). There is no hassle dealing with this company. You leave your car at their location and they will drive you and your rental boat upriver in their vehicle. You paddle down the river to return to their location and their car. The canoe, paddles, seat cushions and life jackets were all in good to excellent condition. The river itself is a lazy, meandering paddle -- at least it was the last week of July, when we were there. I noted two tiny sections that I might classify as Class I rapids, if I were being generous, so it's perfect for paddlers of all skill levels. From A to Z, it was a hassle-free and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thanks! We'll be back.
