  • If you are at the museum anyway, it is worth the time to walk through the Historic Site. It gives one a sense of the President Hoover's truly humble beginnings.
  • We had decided to go to the presidential library and discovered that it sits on an historic site overseen by the National Park Service. The short film in the visitor center is worth seeing. Park Range...  more »
  • Everyone knows about Hoovervilles but this man was also responsible for UNICEF. A humanitarian throughout his life. Can't see many present day politicians coming from such humble beginnings,

  • Make time for the library exhibits. The cottage was so impressive; the ironworks were interesting and it was nice to learn a bit there, too, but if I'd had more time I would've stayed another day and really gone into the library more, and I also would've seen more of the town. The first stop at the Nat'l Park site captured interest as it really put me back in the time...
  • I have to admit, I stopped here to get the park passport stamp and stayed because of the compelling story. It's fascinating to hear how Hoover's brilliant ideas as Sect. of Commerce just didn't translate well to the situation of the Great Depression. On the other hand, the same ideas with the added charisma of FDR became the New Deal. This charming location is well worth the stop if you are heading through.
  • A nice educational historic place and unique in American culture
  • Great presidential library and historic site with history on the only president from Iowa. The park rangers are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
  • Good to see a historical perspective of a misunderstood and blamed president.
