Poinsett State Park is located in Sumter County in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The park is best known for its botanical oddities, combining the flora of the Blue Ridge Mountains foothills and Piedmont of Upstate South Carolina, the xeric Sandhills and the Atlantic coastal plain. In Poinsett State Park one can see mountain laurels draped with Spanish moss. The park, which has been called "weird and beautiful", is named after amateur botanist and South Carolina native Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first American ambassador to Mexico and popularizer of the poinsettia. There is no charge for admission to Poinsett State Park, but there are small fees for overnight camping and cabin rentals. The park is surrounded by the Manchester State Forest, and both provide access to the Palmetto Trail, linked hiking and mountain bike trails, and Manchester State Forest offers equestrian trails.HistoryLocated on the High Hills of Santee and descending to the Wateree Swamp, the site was used by various Siouan tribes of Native Americans, including the Santee, Wateree and Catawba, primarily for hunting. The non-Siouan Congaree lived nearby and may have also frequented the area.Add Poinsett State Park and other attractions to your Wedgefield trip itinerary using our Wedgefield online driving holiday planner .

I had the opportunity to travel with friends to this lovely park last week. It's a quiet place to reflect and recharge your soul. They have cabins for rent, trails to hike, open spaces for sun, a boat... more »
This was a campout weekend with a group of Cub Scouts. We were in a large, primitive site that fit are whole crew. The boys had plenty of room to run and explore between our activities. We had a night... more »
Loving the cabin with some friends, very low-key only a few other cabins nearby and they are decently far I would guess two acres away, the cabin inside is suprisngly very nice and furnished by handcrafted furniture, the table, chairs, live seat, lamps and much more is handmade out of wood, very nice. The shower is also much nicer than lost hotels, the shower water strength and nice and strong. Tall roof feels legit, so is the screened in back porch with it's on handmade table and chairs plus a picnic table.
The staff takes pride in their park and it shows. Our cabin was amazing in the attention to detail in the styling. From the furnishings to the handmade local soap, great care for your experience was in practice. I can't wait to go back!
The way that the boat rental is set up, makes it difficult for people to get a turn. We waited 2 hours only for the boy working there to allow the same people rent it again! Then he tells us we can't reserve, it's first come first serve. But he continued to let the same people rent it over and again! Rude They need a better system!
I loved camping here.the pond is amazing! The rangers are very nice and helpful. You should go check it out! : )
Loved every single thing about this state park. Plenty of well maintained and easily guided hiking and biking trails. It rained one night and the next morning the trails were in perfect condition. The campsites are not on top of each other, which I really liked. The bathrooms are spotless and the water pressure in the showers were better than any hotel I've ever stayed at. The park rangers were super helpful and nice. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this state park, cannot wait to go back!
