State Park
Goose Creek State Park is a North Carolina state park near Washington, Beaufort County, North Carolina in the United States. It covers 1,672acre just off of Pamlico Sound, in North Carolina's Coastal Plain. Goose Creek State Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife that make their homes in the extensive salt water marshes, inlets and creeks on the northern side of the sound. Goose Creek State Park is open for year-round recreation, east of Washington, two miles (3 km) south of U.S. Route 264 on Camp Leach Road.HistoryThe land in and surrounding Goose Creek State Park has long provided an abundance of natural resources for the people of the area. The first recorded inhabitants of the area were members of the Secota and the Pamlico, two Eastern Woodlands tribes. They were victims of widespread disease brought to colonial North Carolina by settlers from Europe during the 17th century. Most of the Indians that did not succumb to disease were killed or driven off during the Tuscarora War (1711–1715). Goose Creek and Pamlico Sound also provided shelter for pirates such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet.

  • Just out exploring Eastern NC and came across this park. Enjoyed a picnic in one of the many picnic areas. They also have a very nice visitor center and good restroom facilities throughout the park.  more »

  • Great trails and views. We walked this park for a couple of hours yesterday and easily did 6+ miles. However some trails do need better signage because we walked in circles for some of it and had to follow the road. Would go again.
  • This park is beautiful. We had an unfortunate incident with a staff member but we received a very fast apology from the director. That said, if we lived closer we would visit again.
  • The campsite did have a primitive to semiprivitive feel. Our site was a quite far from the composting toilet. There are no showers at the park. Firewood was $5 a bundle and was delivered by the duty ranger after I paid. The bundles delivered filled a standard milk crate. We had a good time enjoying nature. Four stars due to the the lack of a shower.
  • So quite and peaceful. You can camp, wall down to the water. Walking trails. Gift shop.inside area with info on the area.
  • Very nice little park. Loved the boardwalk on the swamps, we saw a deer, several woodpeckers and so on. Wish we had more time to do the whole trail.
