Categories: Bodies of Water, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.6/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
Relax by the water and see some of America's proudest monuments at Tidal Basin. This man-made inlet was created in the 19th century as a means to control the high tides of the Potomac River. Today, along the banks you can visit some of Washington D.C.’s famous memorials honoring historic figures, including Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The scenic basin, with approximately 3,750 cherry trees in its vicinity, is also noted as the venue for the National Cherry Blossom Festival at the start of spring each year. If you'd like to do your sightseeing from the water, you can rent a paddle boat. The basin is also a great spot to take an aimless stroll or have a picnic. From the area, you have easy access to the National Mall and its many sites. • Don't get me wrong: I certainly think that there are times when the tidal basin would earn five stars. I was there in March and that last star got it yet. See you on the water all round the Washington Monument, MLK monument and others. A clear blue sky, the tranquility of the water plus the monuments give the feeling of grandeur. You walk around on a historically important place. But as soon as the cherry blossoms will bloom, this place really comes to life. I have seen the photos and that should be a wonderful experience. Would you like to go for the optimal experience, so plan your trip exactly at the right time.

  • This is one of the highlights of the city, with magnificent views offered by the beautiful nature of the region. Set aside at least 2 hours to traverse this Cove walk, making stops in memorials, exploring nature, and maybe renting a paddle boat for a ride on its waters.
