  • We had a few hours to spare on our trip to DC and found this beautiful park just blocks away from our hotel. Great location by the water with its own little "wading pool" and fountains to play in (we ...  more »

  • This is a fantastic space in the city and one we could easily have spent more time in. Plenty of grass, seating, and all with a lovely view of the water. Also a great place to chill before or after vi...  more »

  • Nice area for a meal, picnic, walk, or just hanging out. Right next to Nationals Park (baseball stadium). There are trails and metro within walking. On the water, so nice views. Mostly apartments, restaurants, and a brewery. There are several areas to just sit and relax outside. There is a fountain/wading pool when its warm that gets quite popular for families. Parking at a premium and costly.
  • I waited through this park and boardwalk and enjoyed the scenery and local ice cream. The is plenty of space to gather with friends and families. There is a wading pool for the hot months. The water fall at the end of sidelights is an ingesting feature, allowing you to walk behind it. There is also lawn space, and many tables and chairs. The boardwalk is wide.
  • A beautiful park to take walks. The view of the Anacostia is amazing. Great for picnics and family fun.
  • Really nice park with a separate dog and child play area, ice skating rink in the winter and child play fountain in the summer. Close to restaurants for lunch and the metro. Also a stage for children's shows from time to time.
  • Beautiful boardwalks and river edge landscape. Tons of funky benches and a cool bridge. Nice outside eating and drinking options.

Where to stay in Washington DC

Most visitors to Washington, D.C., end up in the East End, the old downtown district containing most of the city's major cultural attractions. For a more authentic Washingtonian experience, consider staying at a smaller hotel just a little north or east of this busy area. Neighborhoods outside downtown offer less expensive accommodations and affordable street parking, as well as opportunities to meet more locals and fewer tourists. Alternatively, try a hotel in Georgetown, packed with high-end shops and Colonial architecture.
