The President Woodrow Wilson House, Washington DC

4.6
President Wilson offered a vision of the world at peace and a plan for achieving that vision. Nearly a century later, President Wilson’s challenge remains unfulfilled.

The President Woodrow Wilson House gives a special glimpse into the private life of Woodrow Wilson while preserving his important legacy for future generations. After serving as the twenty-eighth President of the United States, where he led the nation through World War I, won the Nobel Peace Prize and created the League of Nations, Woodrow Wilson moved to S Street in 1921 to reflect on his career as educator, president and world statesman.

  • Great and interesting historical landmark. The staff is kind and the guided tour very pleasant. I had a great time and I recommend the visit!
  • Well preserved home that offers a unique view into Wilson's life. Definitely worth a visit
  • Wilson was a ... problematic president to say the least. But a fascinating snapshot of American history and a fascinating house.
  • After having been to numerous presidential homes, I can honestly say this is one of my favorites. The house is located near the historic embassay row and the walk to the house was interesting on its own. And then there is the house. First off, there was no else besides my family and I at this historical gem, so if you're looking to avoid the tourist traps and see some history, this is your place. Like I said earlier, I have been to many presidential homes. Most of them contain reproductions of house items or just period pieces. However, in this house almost everything is original, including the pen Woodrow Wilson used to sign the WWI declaration of war. The tour was interesting and informative and I came away with a new respect for Woodrow Wilson. I'd recommend this for anyone interested in Woodrow Wilson or history.
  • Woodrow Wilson home is such a beautiful hidden jewel in Washington D.C. I live in N. VA and have done almost everything in DC. I wanted to try something different and chose the Woodrow Wilson home. Their website is not the best, but WOW the home and tour is spectacular! The home is 11,000 square feet and 90% of the furniture and artifacts are original. Beautiful paintings, art and decor. The tour is an hour long and includes a short introduction video about Woodrow Wilson. The home takes you back to the 1920s and is just amazing. I would even go again. I will definitely take my next out of town guests here. Parking was great too. I went on a Sunday and parked literally right in front of his home.

Where to stay in Washington DC

Most visitors to Washington, D.C., end up in the East End, the old downtown district containing most of the city's major cultural attractions. For a more authentic Washingtonian experience, consider staying at a smaller hotel just a little north or east of this busy area. Neighborhoods outside downtown offer less expensive accommodations and affordable street parking, as well as opportunities to meet more locals and fewer tourists. Alternatively, try a hotel in Georgetown, packed with high-end shops and Colonial architecture.
