The best place for meditation in the West Potomac Park, Washington-area between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. It includes a tidal pool (Tidal Basin), which glows pink flowers during flowering of beautiful cherry trees in March and April (depends on the whims of spring). Learned about this place from a predefined route in annex TripsFormer

Another peaceful spot in DC. Walk beside the water and stop by the various monuments. Wish we would have done the paddle boats but there is always next time.  more »

Please, please read over my comments before you move-in or sign a deal at this apartment. I regret that there is no possibility for 0 stars. Ive lived at this apartment in both 7 amd first floor. The problems are mostly similar. I have posted disgusting pictures of how my apartment was trashed on google and it was not my fault that the apartment was trashed. Simple maintenence issues. 1. The maintenence handy men on the apart are very rude. 1. When they are trying to come into the apartment, which happened more than 20times in the past year. 2. Do not listen to my request like taking the shoes off for coming in the house because their shoes were dirty. 3. Straight having rude personalities. 2. During my stay, they had to fix the air conditioning for over a week(during my finals). Which made the room extremely dirty, and the answer I got from the apartment office is that I cannot be compensated, hence I needed to contact bernstine(even then there were no sure compensation). 3. The kitchen sink over flowed more than 10times. Which apartment maintenance once blamed me for it, but when Berstein corporate maintenance came and told me that it was not my fault, but it was the people living above me that made the problem. 4. There is 0 ventilation and no fan in the kitchen. If you cook the smell will last for days even after having the window open constantly. 5. The old wodden floors are hard to clean. 6. Loud cleaning ladies in the hall when they clean the public areas of the apartment. 7. Living on the first floor means that there will be smokers outside the apartment all the time.

The management and office staff staff was extremely rude, disrespectful and overall I had a horrible experience renting in the Potomac park building. If I had known this before I would never have gone with a bernstein property. They forced me to pay an additional $450 (in addition to the forfeited rent) when I had to move out because I was forced to leave the country due to my Visa expiration. I wrote numerous emails, called, went to the office multiple times to plead that I couldn't afford to pay this. They also tricked me because they already had other renters lined up to take the apartment and did not want me to sublease it out (which my contract allowed) for the remaining duration of the agreement which would have allowed me to avoid the $450. They first said it was fine and we can talk the next day but in the meantime they showed the apartment to someone else without my permission and signed the rental agreement with them on the same day! I was forced to move out early and had to pay the additional amount. They even threatened me saying that I couldn't complain because otherwise they would take me to court and this was a large company with many lawyers...

Last review was totally true, tons of strange noises coming from other apartments and the ceilings. Also no garbage disposal in the sink, and the shower vent grate has holes large enough so that all kinds of bugs can fly their way in.

Where to stay in Washington DC

Most visitors to Washington, D.C., end up in the East End, the old downtown district containing most of the city's major cultural attractions. For a more authentic Washingtonian experience, consider staying at a smaller hotel just a little north or east of this busy area. Neighborhoods outside downtown offer less expensive accommodations and affordable street parking, as well as opportunities to meet more locals and fewer tourists. Alternatively, try a hotel in Georgetown, packed with high-end shops and Colonial architecture.
