Embassy Row is the informal name for the section of Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. between Scott Circle and the North side of the United States Naval Observatory, in which embassies, diplomatic missions, and other diplomatic representations are concentrated. By extension, the name may be used to encompass nearby streets which also host diplomatic buildings.HistoryConsidered Washington's premier residential address in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Massachusetts Avenue became known for its numerous mansions housing the city's social and political elites. The segment between Scott Circle and Sheridan Circle gained the nickname "Millionaires' Row".The Great Depression caused many to sell their homes. The expansive old estates proved well-suited for use as embassies, and also as lodges of social clubs, giving Embassy Row its present name and identity. The relocation to Embassy Row of diplomatic representations, many of which had been established in Meridian Hill in previous decades, was further catalyzed by the construction of the British Embassy, commissioned in 1925 and completed in 1930, and the Japanese Embassy, built in 1931. The greatest number of embassies and chanceries moved to Embassy Row and the neighboring Kalorama neighborhood in the 1940s and early 1950s.

  • Had a 6 month active treatment w/ invisalign 4 years ago or so....when treatment was complete I was expecting an old fashioned wire retainer but to my delight Dr. Hickoty & his staff strongly recommended the Vivera sumscription..4 retainers in 12 months delivered every 3 months...I wore the Vivera full time for 12 weeks then began to wear them every single night since then..I am so happy with my orthodontic result and the lasting beautiful smile that we achieved together...I get many compliments on my smile and @ 45 years old it is quite a hygiene appointments go very smoothly because straight teeth are easier to clean & my gum health is spot on...I couldn't be happier w/ the amazing super long lasting smile that I have ThanX to Dr. Hickory & his staff
  • For years, I have wanted Invisalign but was always nervous about the process and selecting the right provider. So glad I was able to find Dr. Hickory! My initial consultation was free and his staff was very welcoming. They did a great job of explaining my current condition (open bite) and options for closing my open bite. Dr. Hickory was able to explain the process in detail and was very honest about the cost and flexible with payments. Although I didn't have the money for a down payment on the day of my consultation, Dr. Hickory and his staff didnt make me feel bad about it and welcomed me with open arms once I returned a year later. Today, I am on my 4th set of Invisalign trays and it has been amazing! Dr. Hickory has the best bed side manner and I have been very happy with the results thus far.
  • I absolutely love Dr. Hickory and his amazing staff. This was the best selection I've made when selecting on getting Invisalign. I love my retainers so much, Dr. Hickory even told me he could tell that I wear them more than normal! this place is so family oriented and I am quite pleased with everything that they do!
  • If you're looking for an experienced and friendly staff of orthodontics professionals, look no further than Dr. Wayne Hickory's office. I was a first-time patient for orthodontic treatment (invisalign, to be specific) and received tremendous care and consultation over the 1 1/2+ years of my therapy. Dr. Hickory and team always made me feel very cared for, were consistently on top of the progression I was making, and took as much time needed to carefully address any of my questions or concerns with the treatment. I was also very impressed with the team's stellar expertise in the latest advancements of orthodontic treatment. Needless to say, I am thrilled with the end results! Whether you're a first-time patient or a veteran of orthodontic treatment, rest assured that you'll receive the highest quality care from a dynamic and engaging team of professionals!
  • This office may be good for people looking only for minor realignment of their teeth. Unfortunately, if you have something more long term (opening up the bite or making space between teeth) their first line of treatment is whatever takes the least of their time and most of your money. I was offered an unnecessary extraction as a means of making additional space, while they also tried to sell me the more expensive Invisalign treatment, even though that method is not suited for dealing with malocclusion and is only for more minor cosmetic corrections. I've been told that aggressively pushing Invisalign is just something he does with everyone, which is a poor practice. Fortunately, I am an informed patient and I got them to give me the treatment with traditional braces. In the course of the treatment, a wait of at least 30 minutes or more was guaranteed. They were clearly overbooked but I guess that is how they pay for the fancy decor and gadgets in the office. The results? They took care of most issues but only partially. The alignment is not entirely symmetrical from left to right, and several teeth stand higher/lower than others. The bite can feel quite uncomfortable, especially in the morning. I felt like they could not wait to get rid of me. Their clean-up work was shabby and hurried, so I had to go get the debris removed at a regular dental office, where the staff also noted the insufficient clean-up. Before all this was taken care of, it seems that I also developed several cavities. Conclusion: If you have relatively minor realignment issues, you have plenty of money/time and like to sit in a comfortable office with a bunch of exotic artwork, be my guest.
