  • This was the highlight of our visit to the park today as it is closed in the winter time. The view is good, but the masonry work done to carve staircases into the rock and to build the railings (by th...  more »
  • This has got to be one of the most fascinating works of natural art there is! There is no way to describe the size & beauty of the rocks located in this park. And a short trail to the overlook gives a...  more »
  • We tried to explore this area while visiting today, but the gates were closed. Some chose to park at the gates and walk in the 2.5 miles to the overlook, however we chose not to. We look forward to co...  more »

  • Beautiful. Just so very beautiful! Make sure to look down off the terrace and see the stairwell tunneled into the rock face. That way you know to go check out those viewpoints too. So with the trip, but do bring rain boots just in case it recently rained. The terrace gets big, deep puddles you can't bypass.
  • Several incredible views accessible within 100m of the parking area, which are at the trail-heads of the web of paths around the area. The big rocks from which the views are accessible are too much for anyone who does not have rope and skill; but there is an easy set of steps going down from the center of the overlook to the very climbable rocks of many different sizes at the base of the bigger rocks, where there is heavy shade, "ice boxes", and serenity galore. And for those of you who spend enough time there, there is a small and hidden set of rocks that are perfectly sized for the youngsters or oldsters amongst us (use your orienteering skills to climb in from the highway bridge at the bottom of the mtn and you'll find it near the top). One final point: the drive back from the front gate, about 5km, to the parking area offers wonderful cross-country skiing when the front gate is closed during the winter.
  • Right at the parking area there is a spot to eat (tables and charcoal grills). This trail is my favorite one in the area to take the dogs for a hike. Really wears out my border collie! Lots of climbing. Just writing this review makes me want to grab the leash and head over there.
  • Good hike interesting tunnel stairways and great view of the Allegheny River a short way into the trail. Lots of stairs and hilly hiking well worth the trip. Also is a beach near there and can be hiked to.
  • Rimrock affords a lovely view out over the valley and the Kinzua Reservoir. You'll get the best views in the morning or very early afternoon when the sun is at your back (or at least not in your eyes), but it's more than worth the trip in the afternoon, if you're in the area. There's also a nice short hike (1.3 mi, one-way) down to Kinzua Beach if you want to visit the overlook and make a day of it. Be aware that the stairs leading down to the base of the overlook are quite steep and rather narrow, and that if it's a busy day, you may have to wait for others to pass if you want to head up or down. There is an alternate route to the base of the overlook, but it requires that you go around.
