Wall Drug, Wall

3.0
Earning fame by giving free ice water to thirsty travelers, Wall Drug has become a shopping mall filled with stores, gift shops, restaurants, and attractions for kids. Take a look at its collections of items such as toys, pottery, sculptures, decorative ornaments, souvenirs, candies, and T-shirts. Snap a photo in front of an artificial Mount Rushmore, climb the giant mythical jackalope, or have a classic Western meal at the restaurant. Have a picnic, eat a doughnut, or tour the art gallery. Children can even dig mines and look for gemstones and fossils. Just beware of the dinosaurs and the singing gorilla man. • Plenty of things to look at and buy. A lot of touristy souvenirs but also some unique items. You can easily spend several hours shopping and enjoying the sites.  more »

  • Amazing how a place can change in 30 years! We were there before Memorial Day weekend and again about 2 weeks later. The first time was not as busy, they were still getting ready for the Summer season, touching up paint, testing water features, and training new employees. It wasn't very busy so we had ice cream and spent some time sight seeing, it was great to see they still have a sense of the history of the place, but are not afraid to try new things too. When we stopped on our way home it was so crowded and so hot! We expected absolute chaos, but it was very well organized chaos. Everything was open, employees were friendly and happy to give directions, and no matter how many screaming or unsupervised children were running around, we never saw any employees with a bad attitude or even ruffles feathers. Ice cream was delicious both times!
  • Quaint little town that we stopped at after badlands and on our way to mt Rushmore. I would certainly come here again. It has a complete Wild West feel you feel like you are on a movie set. The shops and bars are super cool as well and all the staff at various facilities seems very friendly as well. Though you are bound to come across more tourists than locals. Certainly recommend to pass through or even stop by if you are looking to break your journey.
  • We started our visit with the breakfast buffet in the café. The cost was comparable to similar buffets. The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. There was adequate seating for our group of seven. To be honest, the food wasn't the main reason for our visit...it was for "the experience" and we weren't disappointed! There was plenty to see and do, the shop prices were really reasonable, parking was close, and of course there was the free water and 5-cent coffee!
  • Crazy fun and extremely wacky place that has everything under the sun that you could possibly want and lots of stuff that you'd never want! This is really nutty and a must see to believe. We had dinner at one of the restaurants there and it was actually very good, which surprised us. There is also some interesting history to learn, such as this is the place that started giving not free ice water to tourist's to attract people. Had a lot of fun here and will spend more time in the future too.
  • Eat before you go here! Food for 2 adults. Burgers, fries, sodas......35 bucks! We could have a nice meal for that price! So much for being a good place to take a family to visit. You would need to take out a loan to feed a couple of kids here. NEVER ever go here again because it's a rip off. No other place to eat in town before you get to the Bad Lands National Park. Take a picnic instead.
