Enjoy spectacular views of crested buttes and rugged red cliffs while hiking the geological wonder that is Waimea Canyon State Park. Fondly known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” the canyon stretches over 22.5 km (14 mi) and is 1,097 m (3,600 ft) deep. Hike along the deep valley gorge to the Waimea Overlook to admire the vivid red and green coloring of the volcanic canyon and for panoramic views of the Kaua’i interior. You can rent a car to explore the area or catch a tour bus to the top of the canyon. Be sure to carry a jacket, as the area tends to be very windy. • Wow! What views the entire drive up. Felt like we stopped every quarter mile to get out and see the view. Highly recommend doing the drive and stopping at the scenic views.  more »
  • Where else can you see red clay canyons, rainforest, and the blue oceans from the same spot? Be careful though, the rainforest can be really rainy and muddy. The lodge is really cool (try the loco Moc...  more »
  • This is where can feel the force of small Edition nature of the Grand Canyon. I think next time I come from the sea wants to look. Popular tours from the sea, should come ago the book is. 3-night but could not reserve in the after arrival. It is too bad.

  • This is an incredibly beautiful and picturesque natural wonder. Anyone visiting Kauai should see this. It is easily accessible. My wife and I traveled along the canyon via car, stopping at many places along the way to take photos and admire the changing viewpoints. Lots of people do helicopter tours, which looks extremely fun and a great way to take it all in quickly (from my perspective, TOO quickly!). Waimea Canyon is like the Grand Canyon but with more (lots more) greenery, which enhances the beauty and color.
  • This is definitely a place to go if you're in Kauai. I am not sure if it rains all the time, but we did encounter rain throughout our journey. Please be careful driving since some of the roads are very curvy and narrow with cliffs. However, this roads are very fun to drive if you're driving a sport car. There is a parking lot once you reach the top. You will need to climb some stairs. I will recommend to take pictures when there is no clouds or fog; just be very patient. Also be careful when walking the metal sheets since they become very slippery with the rain.
  • This is such a gorgeous state park! If you are spending anytime on Kauai I would at least drive through the park. Make sure you do some of the main lookouts too, the views are incredible. I recommend going earlier to see the best views with less people and hopefully no fog. Don't leave any valuables in your car though, break-ins are fairly common in the parking lots.
  • The "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" is worth the tour. I didn't want to drive the road myself, and glad I didn't. Don't get me wrong, I really could have, as I drive the mountains in Colorado quite a bit. I just didn't want to drive, as I wanted to be able to enjoy the canyon, and see the sites, rather than paying attention to the road. So, we booked our tour through the hotel, and our tour was with the Polynesian Tours (see my review). The tour was great. Waimea Canyon is gorgeous! People at home (including family that had been previously been there), said the canyon was a must see. So, we arranged our tour, and went. Our family members were not wrong. The Waimea Canyon is beautiful, which says it all. Go see it!
  • The canyon is amazing to see how much it has been eroded and worn down by wind and water. The views on the way to the top are great but when you reach the main observation area at the top, you can see how extensive it is. It was an enjoyable drive to the top and well worth it once we got there. For the time it took to drive the road, it was something I would do again and made for a great afternoon. It was a little foggy when we were there but it was still amazing.
