(4.9/5 based on 4,200+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy spectacular views of crested buttes and rugged red cliffs while hiking the geological wonder that is Waimea Canyon State Park. Fondly known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” the canyon stretches over 22.5 km (14 mi) and is 1,097 m (3,600 ft) deep. Hike along the deep valley gorge to the Waimea Overlook to admire the vivid red and green coloring of the volcanic canyon and for panoramic views of the Kaua’i interior. You can rent a car to explore the area or catch a tour bus to the top of the canyon. Be sure to carry a jacket, as the area tends to be very windy. • Awesome views! We stopped quickly, walked up to the main viewing area and it didn't disappoint! Stunning!
  • The road to Waimea Canyon is great and while a bit winding it was a good safe drive and ultimately a great view of the landmark
  • The canyon was huge and beautiful, we got there about noon and the clouds started rolling into canyon and eventually it rained, very windy road to get up there.

  • Waimea Canyon and adjacent Kokee Park are among Kauai's Crown Jewels! In addition to the spectacular beauty at the view sites this 4,000 ft mountain area offers trout fishing, pig & goat hunting, wonderful scenic hiking, restaurant, cabin rentals, picnic, tent & trailer camping, bird-plant life-insect study and incredible photo opportunities! Two major view sites have restrooms and great parking but don't pass up some of the undeveloped spots. This waterfall photo came from one of those!
  • Absolutely stunning. You just wouldn't expect such a spectacular topography only a few minutes and miles from tropical beach. The colors and cliffs defy description, and are amazing by car, by foot or by helicopter. I suggest driving to the end of the road into Napali Coast State Wilderness Park, then back through the Koke'e State Park and eventually to Waimea Canyon State Park.
  • This is a beautiful state park....IF you get to see it. :-) we saw it from the air on a wonderful helicopter tour, but the next day we wanted to go see it in person, too. We drove up around 9 am and caught a glimpse of the canyon from the first lookout point. But, as we wound up the canyon round to the final lookout point, it was completely covered in fog. It was raining, too. So... If you catch the canyon on a rainy day (which will happen since Kauai is home to the wettest spot on earth!) you've just got to be willing to wait out the weather to see it in all its glory.
  • One of the best places to visit and look out over. Definitely a place to visit while on the island.
  • So much to see at this amazing park. Don't miss the scenic viewpoints. They are clearly marked off highway 550, with a couple dozen parking spaces. If you like hiking, there are several great hikes that provide sweeping views of this vast canyon.
