  • This hike is affectionally known as the pink pillbox hike. It’s on the west coast Oahu so it’s off the beaten path so-to-speak, but this hike and locale is amazing!! It’s a good hike, definitely...  more »
  • Excellent place to see people from all over the world enjoying themselves in the warm Oahu sun. I love meeting all the Japanese tourist and coming across all of the US mainland visitors.  more »
  • Our ages ranged from 15 to 52, 6 of us. Great climb with moderate with only moderate cardio skills needed. Beautiful views, with old WW2 pull boxes at the top.  more »
  • Hike to these pillboxes are amazing. Beautiful views on this side of the island
  • Pillbox went hiking to aim. Because I do not have confidence in physical strength, it climbs leisurely for about 30 minutes. The car was parked at the entrance. To get to this area, the car rental is a must, so there are few Japanese people, and the locals are less good spots. The view from Pillbox is the best!

  • The hike at Pu‘u‘ohulu Kai, also known as the Mā‘ili Pillboxes, is an exceedingly enjoyable hike on the Wai‘anae Coast. It offers stunning view of the Wai‘anae Mountains, Lualualei Valley, Nānākuli, and Pōka‘ī Bay. Parking is restricted to street parking along Ka‘ukama Road, though I would urge you to use extreme caution when parking here. As the hike has become more popular since the pill boxes were painted break-ins have become more frequent. Bring plenty of water on this and every hike! I'd recommend starting earlier in the day to avoid the heat, or around an hour before sunset to get a beautiful view. Mid-day hikes are possible, but very tough because Wai‘anae is a dry part of O‘ahu. Very little in terms of cloud cover. In all though, this is an increasingly popular hike, and for good reason! It's absolutely stunning.
