Jagger Museum, Volcano

(1,400+ reviews on the web)
Specialty Museum
Jagger Museum offers sheltered viewing of a volcanic crater. Visit the outdoor terrace to get an even closer look inside the volcano. One of the busiest spots on the Crater Rim Drive Tour, the museum features seismographs that track volcanic activity so you'll know if an eruption is coming with plenty of time to evacuate. See suits worn by volcanologists who got a little too close to lava flows. When you park, look out for the nene, Hawaii's official bird. The geese wander the parking lot looking for snacks. Plan your visit to Jagger Museum and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Volcano trip itinerary planner.

  • Best place to see lava, great place during the day, even better at night
  • One of the most awe inspiring things that I've seen in my life. Seeing (and hearing) the active lava flows are truly out of this world
  • Awesome place to see the lava lake glow in the night sky.
  • Museum itself just like any other museum. Great viewing spot for the lava and volcano activity. Go there by sunrise or sunset. Preferably by sunrise. Sunset might bring fog which influences visibility.
  • Informative. They have cameras that show the flow. A lot of information. Geiger counters. Gift shop. Nice area to look at the crater.
