Jagger Museum offers sheltered viewing of a volcanic crater. Visit the outdoor terrace to get an even closer look inside the volcano. One of the busiest spots on the Crater Rim Drive Tour, the museum features seismographs that track volcanic activity so you'll know if an eruption is coming with plenty of time to evacuate. See suits worn by volcanologists who got a little too close to lava flows. When you park, look out for the nene, Hawaii's official bird. The geese wander the parking lot looking for snacks. Plan your visit to Jagger Museum and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Volcano trip itinerary planner.

  • Informative. They have cameras that show the flow. A lot of information. Geiger counters. Gift shop. Nice area to look at the crater.
  • Arrive 30-45 mins prior to sunset to beat the crowd and secure parking. Great views at night to see the glow.
  • This is the most unique museum I have ever seen. See a crater spewing lava from the lookout point.
  • Awesome place to see the lava lake glow in the night sky.
  • Lovely little museum with fun things to buy. Great view of the caldera. After 9PM the viewing area gets very quiet and romantic. Bring a sweater or jacket as it gets chilly later at night.
