  • There is a lot of civil war history in Fredericksburg. The visitor center had nice displays and a movie to watch that was very nicely done. The guided tour of the battlefield was a nice supplement to the information placards. The walking path was a relatively easy half mile loop from the visitors center and gave a good feel for the momentous events that took place on that battlefield.
  • Went for the 2017 Luminaria on Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers placed two luminaries for every stone, and cemetery was open until 11 p.m. The park rangers gave short narratives for some of the soldiers buried there. The place is well maintained and fairly easy to get to. Definitely worth visiting.
  • The National Park Service maintains this battlefield area. Inside of Fredericksburg proper, this space is a poignant memory of the brutality of the American Civil War. 105,000 men lost their lives here over the course of four battles. The Visitors Center has an informative, interactive museum, and a 20 minute video on the battles. After the video, you can join a tour with a park ranger who will walk you through the area pointing out important locations, people, and events. Plan on about an hour here if you take the tour. Or, you can walk it in about 20 minutes. Be sure to climb the short hill to the cemetery.
  • Informative exhibits and enthusiastic NPS staff. We really enjoyed the tour.
  • Lots to learn & see. Great place to come to if you love history and it's beauty!
