  • BEAUTIFUL views of the James River and the downtown skyline. My 10, 9 and 5-year olds loved climbing on the boulders with the perfectly natural variety of skill levels. The touches of history througho...  read more »
  • I absolutely loved this park. It was my first time kayaking and it was a great location, still water, not crowded and super affordable to rent a kayak. It is a good idea to reserve kayak rentals ahead...  read more »
  • What a beautiful gem of a park this is! Nicely sized campsites (ours was huge and right across from the very well-maintained bathhouse), friendly and helpful staff, and great water access. Got here on...  read more »
  • Spent two nights with our 30 foot motor coach, Went to watched one of the parks free concerts beside the rivers edge. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were very clean and after ten PM the park is quite. At 50 cents a log, having a camp fire is very affordable. I was having a problem with my ac unit and one of the staff let me borrow his multimeter (could not find mine) to trouble shoot the problem. Would highly recommend Belle Isle and I will be back this fall for some cool weather camping.
  • 3 night camping. Very clean facilities and private camping lots. Loved the individual shower rooms. The only down side are noisy bugs and mosquitoes. Used about 3 cans of deet and had the bug candle on all the time. Fall time might be best time to visit. Well maintained and friendly staff.
  • One of the first parks that I visited on my motorcycle tour of the Virginia State Parks. It was before Memorial Day, so the park was very quiet and offered an expansive view of the river. A glimpse at the Northern Neck that is worth a day trip.
  • Would have been a 5, except the bugs were worse than we expected. Very pretty setting. We kayaked from the car launch, and really enjoyed that. We were able to paddle up several salt marshes and enjoy the peace and quiet. We camped in a travel trailer, the campground is very nice, the sites are shaded, private, and spacious. The camp hosts were very nice. The bathhouse was VERY nice, clean, and well maintained. You should note that the park is pretty far out in the boonies, and almost empty M-W. The camp store is not open on those days and the campground was pretty empty too. We would certainly go back in the Fall to avoid the bugs.
  • We decided to give Belle Isle State Park a shot for Memorial Day Weekend in our 24' camper. What a great park for family and kids. The staff was super nice, the ground clean, spacious, and each campground was very private. The entire park was very oriented around educating kids on nature and enjoying the outdoors. We went canoeing, crabbing, hiking, bike riding, a hay ride, and an outdoor concert which included many kids games and activities. I would defiantly recommend this park to anyone with kids and will go again.
