Pine Mountain Gold Museum Reviews
We visited with three grandchildren 8, 6, and almost 2. We had a great time feeding the Koi fish and the farm animals. The train ride was great and the train robbers added a little spice although the ... more »
Walking trails with historical landmarks to look at. Animals to see. Nice pond with giant fish to look at. All of that is free. There is also gold panning, train, and museum for a fee. more »

First the people working and volunteering there were great! I guess it's important to read more reviews about the stuff you see in GA Tourist Magazines before you go. While it is a cool Villa Rica City park with lots to do. I was not drawn to the museum. I think the pricing should include a site pass for $11 or $12 which let's you do everything. Instead you are paying $5 for each thing you do. I would not have a problem paying for each if I only wanted to do two but a site price would have been ideal. The train ride is fun for the kids but difficult to understand the audio portion and I feel the engineer would have done a better job. The panning for gold an gems was lackluster at best. Having been to other panning locations I must admit this one felt sterile. The dead bugs floating in the water made for an adventure but that's about as enthusiastic as I can be about that. The grounds are well maintained and I can see why they have hiking trails that are free to use. All in all, my experience was the same for the other adults in our group as well. Still beats sitting in front of the TV!
We drove up from Atlanta to give this place a try, as we have small children that love trains. Near the end of the ride, the driver stopped abruptly on the tracks. This was followed by a "mock style" train robbery. An employee, who seemed to be playing sheriff, proceeded to shoot the "bad guys" at close range with very loud replica pistols. Several children in front of us were screaming in tears, and our kids were shocked, confused and scared. I understand the concept of acting out a narrative and wanting to create an experience as a business. However, this was not appropriate for small children at all. Note to business: Let parents know up front that gun violence is included in the train ride admission.
We bring our grandchildren here when they visit. They love it! Pan for gold or gem stones, take a train ride of tour the museum and gold mine!
Overall this is a fun, educational outdoor family activity; however, we were disappointed in their animal husbandry. Specifically, some animals had no water at all, while others had dirty water. Enclosures were small and filled with mud. Grazing animals such as horse, donkey, steer, goats, and sheep were observed to have no grass or hay. If you are using animals for profit, they should receive the best possible care.
Fun place for the entire family. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The train is fun to ride & we love to pan for gemstones. I highly recommend it.
