McKee Botanical Garden, Vero Beach

Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web
See one of the biggest outdoor collections of water lilies in the United States at McKee Botanical Garden, a subtropical garden filled with local and exotic plant species that was founded in 1929. The garden was a popular attraction after it opened in 1932, but was closed for about 25 years until 2001, when it was refurbished. Now you'll find vast groups of water lilies, bromeliads, pineapple plants, plumbago, tall palm trees, and other fragrant vegetation. Explore the hall of the giants, a Polynesian-styled ceremonial palace built by one of the garden's founders, Waldo E. Sexton, out of cypress and pine. The palace contains an 11 m (35 foot) table made from a single piece of mahogany. • I was so impressed on how beautiful and peaceful this garden was. And how much history is here, in this one spot. This is a must see for anyone who loves Flowers, Florida, or just having a nice walk. If I could have sat on the stone bridge over the lily pond all day, I would have.
  • A gem. We enjoyed their dedication to trying to show true Florida without it being totally wild. The handicap scooters were a pleasant surprise, allowing my mother to enjoy the whole garden, rather than having to sit close to the entrance waiting for me to finish looking at everything, like she has to do most of the time. Thanks for a pleasurable afternoon.
  • My mother has lived in Vero Beach for 17 years and has never been to McKee, so my girlfriend and I brought my mom and she loved the amazing dinosaur exhibit. She took lots of pictures and enjoyed learning about the history of the garden. She was smiling the entire time, looking at the flowers, plants, trees, and waterfalls. I don't think I remember her being so happy in recent years. For this reason I gave McKee a five star review, for the happiness and enjoyment they brought to my mom. I recommend this place for the entire family.
  • Beautiful, quiet, and all other adjectives you could think of. Hall of Giants is neat. The stone bridge is beautiful. Loved it, will definitely be going back soon!!
  • Nice, relaxing place to visit. Be sure to check out their website prior to your visit as they routinely host fun events.
