  • This is a lovely small mission. Pretty garden. The church is not ornate but it is historically significant -- just take a look at the hand-hewed beams and woodwork. There is a small box on the wall as...  read more »
  • I suspect the Chumash People were doing pretty well before the arrival of the 'missionaries' and to be honest I didn't gain greatly from the experience either. Mission San Buenaventura is situated in ...  read more »
  • Among the old Spanish Missions this one ranks behind Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Santa Inez on my list. Worth a visit if in the area but not as a main attraction.
  • Ok, I probably shouldn't have gone there in the first place. As a progressive person rooting for diversity, equality and freedom, I regret paying $4 going there only to know that my money will probably go into printing another copy of their anti-abortion brochure sitting on the shelves in the church. The staff members are super friendly, which I appreciate. And the architecture is beautiful, which I enjoyed. Nonetheless, the one-sided narration of the history was disturbing, to say the least. There were no mention of the forced labor and the cultural loss of the Chumash people. Somehow they do sell a couple of illustrated children's book about Chumash culture, maybe the guilt finally kicked in.
  • Beautiful Mission located in the town area. Good free parking just west of the Mission in a parking lot on the south side of the street. Well worth a visit.
  • California Mission History told here is false their can be no beauty behind lies of the Catholic church. 90 percent of Indigenous peoples died enslaved, beaten and raped. How is it beautiful when the land itself was stolen and used for the Churches gain. This is an intitution glorifying criminals .
  • Wow such a unique, warm and welcoming parish. We were truly bleesed to celebrate our Easter with you, our family reflected on the service through out the day and how special the message and experience was for each of us.
  • One of the smallest by size but packed with a very large amount of artifacts and history. The last time we where at the mission they had on display Vatican designated "relics" from Saints...AMAZING!
