Venice Beach, Venice

Beach
At Venice Beach--reputedly the shark-tooth capital of the world--take time to swim, go scuba diving, relax on the broad expanse of sand, and beachcomb for fossilized shark's teeth that make the beach famous. From the shore or the boardwalk, watch for bottlenose dolphins frolicking in the water. If you are a diver, paddle out 400 m (0.25 mi) to explore the coral reef. Stroll along the Venice pier, where you can fish, take in the view, or grab a hot dog from the bait shop. For a more substantial meal, head to Sharky's on the pier for shrimp and chips or lobster-stuffed flounder. • Such a beautiful beach!! There is parking adjacent the beach when you can find it (honestly wasn't too difficult to find parking at all). The water is crystal clear blue and you can even see the fish swimming alone the shore! The beach wasn't too packed although there was a good amount of people but not enough to feel crowded. We went on a Wednesday around 1pm. It was absolutely beautiful the water was a little chill but felt good with the sun shining down and a light breeze. Definitely kid friendly as there were young children playing in the sand and we even joined them and when we were ready to leave there was a place to rinse your feet and body! Perfect way to spend an afternoon!
  • Sharks teeth, been going here since I was a kid. Not as many sharks teeth as there used to be, but wonderful family friendly beach, with great shower facilities and wonderful Venice shops and restaurants to visit after a long day at the beach. The trees here on Venice Avenue are 100's of years old and quite a sight to behold. Have fun at the BEACH, and we can't wait to go back!!!
  • great beach. we just were going south to Naples when there was backup on I. So i thought why not take a detour and check out this beach and stay until the highway is cleared. I was happy that we took that break and went to this beach. Stayed her until sunset which is the highlight !
  • Only found a few sharks teeth on the beach but the sand was great. Got there around 10am in March and the the beach wasn't busy. By noon it was nicely packed.
  • First of all, the Venice, Florida beach is absolutely wonderful, and the reason my wife and I moved across the U.S. to retire here. Google did not call out the concession as a stand-alone entity, but if so it would merit no more than 1-2 stars; better than nothing but feels like a poorly-run government stand rather than a customer-oriented enterprise more typical of my new town. Says it closes at 4pm but woe is anyone who dares to try to order after 3:44 pm -- you will risk the full wrath and fury of the owner / operator: "I don't need this!" was the reply to me at 3:50pm as, suitably chagrined, I sheepishly made my way to the exit with nothing to show for my audacious inquiry. In another instance, a simple hot dog and salad required a 10 minute ordering process (cash only) and 30 minute wait after that. No, it wasn't snowbird season. Don't go hungry. Better yet, don't go at all to this unhappy, tourist abusive place - lots of great eating options just a few blocks away downtown that even with drive will be faster and deliciously creative. Even a fast food option just over the bridge will be less time - cheaper - and delivered with a smile! The city would be better served with a more customer focused enterprise that finds joy in serving the public in return for $$$, ideally who innovates to create new menu items well into sunset which is well attended at this beach - for good reason. As many areas have found, entrepreneurial food carts might be an idea for the city to seriously consider to make a more competitive, varied, and market driven gastronomic experience for the betterment of all who enjoy the natural beauty of this beach. If you can, consider an old fashioned picnic lunch. Just don't count on the concessionaire for food unless you want to be put into your place as a bothersome tourist (or even resident), with time and cash to burn.
