New Hogan Lake is an artificial lake in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Calaveras County, California, about 30mi northeast of Stockton. It is formed by New Hogan Dam on the Calaveras River, whose North and South forks combine just upstream of the lake, and has a capacity of 317000acre.ft. The earth-fill dam, completed in 1963, is 210ft high from the crest of the dam to the original streambed. The reservoir was first filled in 1965. There is a small hydroelectric plant at its base. It is owned by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and provides flood protection, drinking water, electricity and water for irrigation. There is also recreation available, such as boating, fishing, water skiing and camping.

  • They have both tent camping and RV camping. Sites are pretty good size. Dump stations and rest rooms. The lake is really low but great for everyone tho swim. Lots of deer and rabbits running around.....  more »
  • This is a fun lake on weekdays. Weekends are a bit to crazy for my taste. It would also be nice if it was stocked once in awhile.  more »

  • We've been going here every year for my husband's birthday since I married him 18yrs ago. He's been going to New Hogan Lake with his parents /family his whole life so we're very familiar with where everything is there, know the best campsites, best beaches &coves everything!
  • Spectacular views and great hiking trails.
  • Excellent trails, challenging ride, good off season experience. . .
  • Great lake, nice facilities. Wish there was more shade, and more camp sites near the water.
  • Nice place to spend the day near or in the water. Have had many parties in the observation point.
