Sitting on the edge of a cliff that juts out into the water, this National Historic Landmark offers photo opportunities as well as historical background. Take the tour of the lighthouse, which brings you into the keepers' houses and up to the top, or explore on your own with the help of plentiful signs and posted information. For the best views of the lighthouse, hike down to the rocky beach below using either the stairs or the trail. Split Rock Lighthouse is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Two Harbors Edition.

  • Such a beauty! Definitely worth the stop. Rich history and spectacular views. A little pricey for the tour in my opinion at approximately 16.00 a person. Again, you can't beat the views!!!
  • we took the guided tour and it was well worth the money. She gave us so much history of the location and then we were allowed to tour the buildings.
  • Interesting and historic light house. Knowledgeable tour guide. A must see if in the area and well worth the stop. Can get some nice pictures of the are from this vantage point.
  • I cant lie its a very cool old looking lighthouse. However they charge you $10 just to get close to it. Yes its probably worth 10 but it just feels wrong that they would charge. I am part of a large family so for all of us to go it was $60 and the tour doesnt last but 40 minuets tops. Not disappointed with the actual building just the people who run it. And the wifi password to lighthouse wifi is splitrock
  • I had wanted to travel and visit this lighthouse for years. The scenery and views from high above Lake Superior are magnificent. Sadly, it took the death of my brother to visit this place that he wanted to take me and my wife to for many years. Enjoying the solitude above the lake and knowing of his visits made it a fitting way to end our trip.
  • Well worth the stop. Be sure to catch the video and guided tour. There are several spots where you can get amazing photos of the light house from the trail. Also with admission you can get a free pass for a picnic for the state park that the lighthouse is in. The lighthouse has the only mercury bearing still operating in the USA and still has it's frenzel lense.
  • If you're doing the Duluth / Two Harbors trip, then make a day of it by going to Gooseberry Falls, a meal at Betty's Pies, and a visit here. Historic working lighthouse, with regular tours, spectacular cliff views, and a picture of what life was like for the keepers.
  • If you're anywhere in the area, make your way to this historic venue. Kodak probably made a fortune from photographers here in the film days. The interpretive center and tours bring into the present the power of Lake Superior, and of drive to make navigation safe. Must see.
