The Golden Driller is a 75ft, 43500lb statue of an oil worker, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is the fifth-tallest statue in the United States.
It was originally built in 1952 by the Mid-Continent Supply Company of Fort Worth for the International Petroleum Exposition. Six years later, it was temporarily erected again for the 1959 show. Due to the positive attention it attracted, the company donated the statue to the Tulsa County Fairgrounds Trust Authority which had it anatomically redesigned and permanently installed in front of the Tulsa Expo Center for the 1966 International Petroleum Exposition. The statue's right hand rests on an oil derrick which had been moved from a depleted oil field in Seminole, Oklahoma.
An inscription at the base of the statue reads: "The Golden Driller, a symbol of the International Petroleum Exposition. Dedicated to the men of the petroleum industry who by their vision and daring have created from God's abundance a better life for mankind."
In 1979, the Golden Driller was adopted by the Oklahoma Legislature as the state monument.
As part of an online promotional contest sponsored by Kimberly-Clark in October 2006, the Golden Driller was named the grand prize as a top ten "quirkiest destination" in the United States, winning its nominator a $90,000 international vacation for two.

  • If you like to get your picture with giant monuments. This is it. He will usually have a shirt painted on and right now he has chucks painted on his feet.  more »
  • Big legs, bigger chest, little buns...ha! We went into the event center and watched an Arabian show and were glad we did, 'cause really, there's not much to see in an oil driller.  more »
  • This 76 foot tall giant golden driller and oil derrick are a great photo op. Parking is easy as long as nothing is going on at the arena which it fronts. This is another iconic giant on the route...  more »

  • I think the Golden Driller is such a cool landmark in Tulsa. I love how it shows Tulsa's history as the "oil capital of the world". It seems like a lot of things are named after this one statue (sports teams, sushi rolls, etc.), which I think is kind of cool. You can find him right outside the Expo building. This is where the fairgrounds are every year in the fall. In the summer, you can visit the Golden Driller and enjoy one of the best snow cone shacks right next to it while you're at it.
  • Super easy to access roadside attraction, just off Route 66. Parking is very accessible, just off the road. Not a crowded attraction. The history of the statue is interesting enough. Get a photo.
  • It was pretty cool to see. Also when visiting make sure you get a yummy snow cone. 😋
  • This is a quick ten minute stop on your trip. The kids loved to see how tall this statue is. It is the 6th tallest statue in the world. It is a fun stop to stretch your legs and take a few pictures.
  • Fun outdoor statue to take pictures by. Easy to get to just off roadway and easy to spot. Plenty of parking close by
